Required Abilities, Qualifications and Experience:
Extensive academic training, professional preparation, and qualifications in teaching in all areas of this assignment.
Knowledge of, and demonstrated application of, the Ministry of Education's current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as applied to all areas of this assignment.
Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to implement teaching practices that align with the Professional Standards for BC Educators.
appropriate professional preparation in the teaching of Home Economics (a university teaching major, its equivalent, or experience directly related to the teaching position)
demonstrated competence in teaching all aspects of a Home Economics Program, using highly successful instructional strategies that engage and motivate students
demonstrated understanding of the Foods and Nutrition Curriculum
knowledge of, and willingness to practice, all elements of the new reporting order, specifically utilizing proficiency scales and descriptive feedback for assessing and communicating student progress and learning
demonstrated ability to motivate and provide success for students who experience difficulties with learning and require additional support through student services
demonstrated ability to recognize, acknowledge, and plan for individual student differences and to adjust instructional practices accordingly
demonstrated experience and continued commitment to honoring First Peoples Principles of Learning and the Indigenization of curriculum
demonstrated ability and energy to use a variety of instructional strategies to teach secondary students
demonstrated strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, classroom management, and collaborative skills
demonstrated ability to work closely with staff in a team-oriented approach
demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues both verbally, in writing, and using technology
demonstrated commitment to use technology for teaching
demonstrated knowledge and understanding of adolescent development
demonstrated commitment to and engagement in lifelong professional and personal learning
