Required Abilities, Qualifications and Experience:
extensive academic training and post graduate coursework in the following areas: students with special needs; assessment/testing theory and practice (Level B); strategies for adapting and modifying curriculum
knowledge of, and demonstrated application of the Ministry of Education's current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as outlined in the Manual of Policies, Procedures and Guidelines for Special Education Services
demonstrated experience and ability in being able to carry out a variety of assessments, including classroom observation, curriculum based assessment and diagnostic teaching methods, administration and interpretation of Level B Assessments including the WIAT, PPVT, Key Math and TOWL.
demonstrated experience in and knowledge of methods for evaluating and selecting instructional materials suitable for students with a variety of special needs and learning disabilities
knowledge of and demonstrated experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of CBIEPs in consultation with the classroom teacher(s), parent(s), student and district personnel
Demonstrated understanding of and successful experience in teaching students with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities, autism, chronic health and physical disabilities, and multiple disabilities as defined by the Ministry of Education.
fluency in both written and oral language in French and English
extensive academic training, professional preparation and qualifications in teaching in all areas of this assignment (Learning Assistance and French Immersion)
knowledge of and demonstrated application of the Ministry of Education's current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as applied to all areas of this assignment
knowledge of and demonstrated experience in current best practice and research in education, especially as it relates to students with a wide range of special needs (learning disabilities, gifted, profound disabilities, etc.), also including French Immersion methodology
demonstrated practice in working collaboratively with colleagues to analyze student results in order to inform instruction with a goal of improving student learning
demonstrated ability in providing leadership, professional development and support services in balanced instructional and assessment practices at the elementary level
demonstrated experience with and thorough knowledge of technology, including, but not limited to MyEdBC
demonstrated experience and ability in being able to carry out a variety of assessments, including classroom observation, curriculum-based assessment and diagnostic teaching methods
knowledge of and demonstrated ability in addressing the wide range of academic, social, emotional and behavioural needs of children
demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills
commitment to the concept and philosophy of Collaborative Teaming, including a willingness to chair and coordinate School Based Team meetings
knowledge of and proven ability in effective classroom management and organization skills
knowledge of and willingness to implement a school wide Response to Instruction/Intervention model
commitment to and experience in working with colleagues to develop a strong and caring professional learning community
willingness to participate in training related to the implementation of an Early French Immersion Program
