SubjectsLethbridge School Division is seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic individual to join our team as the Middle School Indigenous Education Teacher (grades 6 to 8). The successful candidate will be responsible for the delivery of academic, vocational and leadership building, within a culturally sensitive context for all students in the Division while supporting meaningful relationships specifically with students of Indigenous ancestry. They will support holistic learning in areas such as cultural teachings, traditions and spirituality through the Alberta Program of Studies, First Nations M\xc3\xa9tis and Inuit Outcomes.The successful candidate will:
  • Be dedicated to supporting students of Indigenous ancestry;
  • Have effective time management and organizational abilities within a school context;
  • Have extensive experience working with Indigenous populations and infusing Indigenous culture and language into the classroom;
  • Have the ability to instruct Blackfoot language at the Middle School level;
  • Be able to work autonomously in educational settings;
  • Have successful evidence of working collaboratively with colleagues;
  • Supporting the delivery of curriculum through collaboration with school staff, department managers, specialists, teachers and the Indigenous Education Team;
  • Develop programming in collaboration with the teacher in classrooms and non-traditional settings;
  • Build resource library in collaboration with liaisons and teachers;
  • Engage in delivery and create sustainable programs;
  • Collaborate with teachers to align curriculum with the appropriate level learner outcomes;
  • Provide positive role-model for students by participating in scheduled and informal recreational activities;
  • Assist with and participate in special events, conferences, expositions and other professional learning activities;
  • Identify opportunities to support learning outside of school hours;
  • Demonstrate and coordinate Indigenous traditional activities into curriculum;
  • Coordinate Indigenous Family Night at various school sites;
  • Teach Indigenous Culture at the Middle School level;
  • Have knowledge of Blackfoot Language and Culture (considered an asset);
  • Have previous experience teaching Physical Education (considered an asset).
Requirements:
  • Applicants must possess or be eligible to obtain an Alberta Teaching Certificate.
Conditions of EmploymentIn order to ensure and maintain a safe and secure working and learning environment, applicants new to Lethbridge SchoolDivision who are offered employment must provide:
  • A police information check; including Vulnerable Sector Check from Police Services or an RCMP detachment that does not have any charges or convictions.
  • A satisfactory Intervention Record Check from South Region Alberta Child and Family Services.
  • Proof of photo identification, may be a valid driver\'s licence, provincial identification card as issued by a licensed government registry office, valid passport or Nexus card. If one cannot be provided, a new card must be obtained and proof of application provided within three days of hire.
  • Documentation of a valid Social Insurance Number in the employee\'s legal name. If valid Social Insurance documentation in the current legal name can not be provided, the successful candidate will be required to obtain a new one within three days of hire.
  • Travel is required therefore a valid Class 5 Driver\'s License is required.
