Required Abilities, Qualifications and Experience:

  • extensive academic training, professional preparation and qualifications in teaching in all areas of this assignment
  • knowledge of, and demonstrated application of the Ministry of Education\xe2\x80\x99s current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as applied to all areas of this assignment
  • completed at least a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a Major or Minor in Visual Arts
  • awareness of and experience working with the First Peoples Principles of Learning
  • demonstrated competence in teaching Studio Art, Photography, and Ceramics
  • demonstrated content knowledge in teaching all aspects of a Fine Arts program
  • demonstrated content knowledge of the most effective ways to help students learn art technique and expression
  • demonstrated ability to devise a variety of formative and summative assessments for improving student learning and guiding instructional practice
  • demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinary approach to teaching
  • demonstrated ability to motivate, and provide success for struggling learners
  • demonstrated ability to devise and use a variety of assessment processes that effectively allow students to demonstrate their learning
  • demonstrated skills supporting and mentoring students with project-based learning where students can work individually or collaboratively on an in-depth learning experiences
  • ability to design lessons for a strong commitment to literacy development that promotes the ability to understand, critically analyze, and create a variety of forms of communication including oral, written, digital and multimedia
  • ability to teach in combined grade classrooms where the teacher develops a mindset that sees all the students as a group of learners with a range of needs and interests
  • ability to design cross-curricular lesson and unit plans with a strong emphasis on the following three core competencies: communication, thinking, and personal and social competency
  • ability to design lesson and unit plans that focus on deep understanding and application of knowledge
  • demonstrated commitment to use technology to enhance and leverage effective instructional practice and track student learning
  • demonstrated commitment to use technology as part of a larger initiative to communicate consistently and effectively with parents
  • an exemplary work ethic with proven ability to work as an effective team member
  • demonstrated sensitivity, awareness and understanding of adolescent development and enthusiasm for developing positive relationships with adolescents
