The Systems Engineering group is an inter-disciplinary team that focuses on defining the System-level requirements and System architecture for the Telesat Lightspeed LEO communications network. As a Systems Engineer in the group, this role will focus on project engineering. Reporting to the manager of Systems Engineering your focus will be on ensuring that the efforts of the team are focused on the key priorities, and that the efforts of the team are estimated and proceeding. This will require technical knowledge to interact with the other engineers and pragmatic judgement regarding scoping work and prioritizing tasks.
Main Responsibilities

  • Project Coordination: Ensure cross-disciplinary collaboration and alignment with project goals.
  • Technical Leadership: Provide engineering teams with guidance and recommendations about work package definition during the design, development, testing, and delivery phases.
  • Risk Management: Identify and propose solutions to mitigate technical and schedule risks.
  • Requirements Management: Work closely with stakeholders to translate mission requirements into engineering solutions.
  • Reporting requirements: Develop and deliver summarized reports on the technical progress of the group on a regular cadence.
  • Strategic Guidance: Provide analysis-based recommendations to management regarding the prioritization and execution of defined work packages.
  • Technical support: On occasion provide technical inputs to specific work items that are inline with your technical expertise.
  • You will on occasion be expected to prepare and deliver presentations to the Telesat technical community.
Education and Experience Required
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in electrical, aerospace, systems engineering or related discipline.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience relating to the defined responsibilities.
  • Experience developing and scoping program and project work breakdown structures and work packages.
Specialized Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong communication and leadership
  • Proficiency in systems engineering and project management with focus on Work Breakdown Structures and Data Item Descriptions (or equivalent)
  • Familiarity with and exposure to space-based Systems Engineering Processes such as ECSS and NASA
  • Proven ability to manage schedules, and technical deliverables
  • Working knowledge and recent experience with JAMA or similar requirements management tool and JIRA is required
  • Model Based Systems Engineering experience is an asset
  • Work well in a team environment
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Able to present complex ideas to a more general audience
  • Committed to excellent work products
  • Able to manage several complicated issues simultaneously

The successful candidate must be able to work in Canada and obtain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods program (CGP).
