Role description:





Arcadis is seeking a Systems Design Lead/ Manager to join our Mobility Global Business Area and work on delivering an existing and future portfolio of projects. This position can be based out of any of our Canadian offices. The position includes opportunities to develop and enhance project management skills and serve as a mentor to junior-level engineering and design staff.



This role sits in our Mobility Global Business Area (GBA). We partner with our clients across the globe to design thriving and connected cities and communities that enable opportunity for all and keep the world moving. Climate change, urbanization and digitization trends are requiring today's mobility projects and systems to address an evolving set of demands from the world's growing population. We design connected, sustainable solutions that integrate existing infrastructure with new technologies, and optimize the mobility of people and goods.


Role accountabilities:





The successful candidate will lead the design and integration of transit systems across multiple disciplines, ensuring that all solutions are aligned with project goals and client requirements. This role requires a strategic approach to system development and a deep understanding of transit operations and stakeholder needs.



Key responsibilities include developing system architecture, interface definitions, and comprehensive design documentation for signaling, communications, train control, and related systems. These deliverables will form the foundation for high-performing and reliable transit solutions.



You will coordinate closely with civil, electrical, and operations teams to ensure the seamless integration of systems into the broader infrastructure. Effective collaboration between disciplines is essential for achieving robust, interoperable transit networks.



Ensuring compliance with applicable standards and regulations is a critical aspect of the role. The candidate will be responsible for maintaining quality and safety throughout the design process, meeting both industry and client expectations.



The position involves managing design schedules, budgets, and resources to ensure that project milestones are achieved. Proactive management and effective prioritization are key to delivering projects on time and within budget.



Regular engagement with clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies is necessary to facilitate approvals and resolve technical issues. Strong communication skills and the ability to address stakeholder concerns are essential for successful project delivery.



You will conduct design reviews, risk assessments, and quality assurance activities to maintain the integrity and reliability of system designs. These processes help identify potential issues early and ensure that project outcomes are both safe and effective.



The role includes mentoring junior engineers and contributing to technical leadership and innovation across the team. Your guidance will support professional development, foster a culture of excellence, and drive the adoption of cutting-edge practices within the organization.


Qualifications & Experience:




Minimum

12 years of experience

in systems design for rail and transit projects, preferably within Canada. Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related discipline; Master's degree is an asset.

P.Eng. license in Ontario

is preferred; candidates must be eligible to obtain licensure. Strong understanding of transit systems integration, interface management, and lifecycle design. Experience with CBTC, conventional signaling, communications systems, and SCADA. Familiarity with Canadian transit standards and procurement models (e.g., P3). Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

The salary range for this position is $95,000 - $178,000. The base salary represents Arcadis' hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualification for the role.
