System Administrator, Network Operations

Job Description

Purpose





Reporting to the Manager, IT Operations, the System Administrator, Network Operations role is responsible for managing, maintaining, and optimizing corporate and remote network infrastructure. This includes ensuring network integrity, security, and performance across multiple environments (on-premises, cloud, and remote sites). This role supports business continuity by implementing robust network solutions and providing advanced troubleshooting.


Key Areas of Accountability




Network Infrastructure Management




Design, install, administer and maintain corporate LAN/WAN, SD-WAN, Wi-Fi, LTE, and satellite connectivity.

Configure and manage network hardware (switches, routers, firewalls) and software across all sites and remote environments.

Plan for future growth and scalability of network infrastructure.



Network Security




Implement and maintain security measures (firewalls, VPNs, intrusion detection systems).

Collaborate with IT Security to actively identify vulnerabilities and apply patches promptly.

Enforce access controls and network segmentation in line with documented security policies.



Monitoring and Troubleshooting




Continuously monitor and ensure optimal performance, availability, and reliability of LAN, WAN, and wireless networks.

Diagnose and resolve network issues to minimize downtime.

Maintain logs and documentation of incidents and resolutions.



User Support and Collaboration




Provide technical support for network-related issues to end-users and internal IT teams.

Collaborate with system administrators, cybersecurity, product, and engineering teams to deliver secure and integrated solutions.

Limited travel to site locations for equipment setup, and some after hours work during change control windows may be required.



Compliance and Documentation




Maintain accurate network diagrams, configuration records, change logs, and support documentation.

Adhere to documented change management procedures.

Ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory standards (PCI, ISO 27001, etc..).



Qualifications




Education/ Certification/ Licenses




Diploma or degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field

Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or equivalent.

CompTIA Network+ or similar credentials.

Azure cloud networking certifications an asset.



Experience




Minimum 5-7 years in network administration within enterprise environments.

Advanced experience with Cisco networking equipment, Palo Alto firewalls, and Microsoft cloud networking.

Experience managing and implementing cloud, on-premises, hosted and hybrid IT infrastructure (i.e. Microsoft Azure)

Experience with scripting and automation of repetitive tasks.

Demonstrated proficiency in management of corporate telecommunication portfolios including routing, switching, wireless technologies, IP telephony, satellite communications, and SD-WAN.

Experience with data, network and internet security, network intrusion prevention, vulnerability testing, authentication and encryption.

Experience with implementing network & system monitoring tools.

Experience supporting a network infrastructure with remote facilities and high availability solutions.

Able to manage multiple conflicting priorities, reprioritize tasks, establish priorities, work independently and meet deadlines.

Demonstrated ability to multi-task, probe, analyze and problem-solve complex issues.

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt in a complex and changing environment

Work with detailed technical information and hands-on technology experience.

Work as part of a team and ask for assistance when required.

Ability to maintain information in confidence and exercise good judgment.

Work Environment




Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Corporate Office - Vancouver based; hybrid role with a minimum 3 days / week in the office.

Compensation





The base salary offered for this role is $70,000 to $84,000 per annum and can vary based on job-related expertise, qualifications, experience and internal equity. Eligible for Armstrong Collective's discretionary bonus program.
