Reports to: Supervisor, Infrastructure & Operations Primary Job Location: Central Police Station, 155 King William St., Hamilton, ON Hours of Work: Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Salary Range: Schedule 9E - $78,171 to $91,966 per annum (as of January 1, 2022) Status: Full-Time

SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Supervisor, Infrastructure & Operations, the System Administrator will primarily be responsible for the effective administration and support of the Microsoft 365 platform and the server and storage infrastructure within the Hamilton Police Service (HPS). The System Administrator will also maintain the Video Surveillance System and IT monitoring & management systems. Some General Duties include:
  • Support the implementation and ongoing operations of our Microsoft 365 environment, including Azure Active Directory, Outlook email, MS Teams, SharePoint and other Microsoft Cloud applications.
  • Support and maintain the server and storage technologies in a complex and secure environment; including rack-mounted and Blade servers, hyper converged infrastructure, VMware virtual environment, Isilon storage, and other SAN and NAS-based storage and backup technologies.
  • Provide on-going maintenance and technical support for HPS's Windows Server Infrastructure (e.g. Active Directory, File sharing services, Group Policy, Clustering, etc.).
  • Provide 2nd level support for resolution of Windows infrastructure-related issues. Investigate, troubleshoot and analyze hardware and software performance issues, and provide assistance to Helpdesk and Application Support teams in troubleshooting business application issues.
  • Monitor and manage server and storage capacity and utilization to ensure daily operations are not affected.
  • Monitor and manage the Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager and InTune environments for desktop and mobile device management. Support the Helpdesk and Desktop & Mobile Support teams with desktop image and mobile device deployment.
  • Monitor and maintain the Video Surveillance System (VSS) environment, including software upgrades, user access permissions, storage usage and retention policies. Support the Network Administrator with camera deployment, monitoring and maintenance.
  • Maintain and monitor VEEAM data platform for Cloud and on premise data backups. Manage all backup and restore procedures for cloud, server and storage environments, and provide support to IT Team for data recovery activities.
Education & Experience
  • Minimum two (2) year College Diploma in Computer Systems, Network Systems or a related field (i.e. Software Support Technician).
  • Minimum four (4) years of system administration experience working in a networked Windows Server and desktop environment.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience administering Microsoft 365 environments.
  • Knowledge of and experience with administering SAN and NAS-based file storage and backup environments.
  • Knowledge of and experience with maintaining and administering a virtual server based environment using VMWare.
  • Good understanding of new technologies including hyper-converged infrastructure.
  • Working knowledge of and experience with operating system implementations, including clustering.
  • Good knowledge of and experience with maintaining Active Directory, Group Policy, File and Print Services, DNS, and DHCP.
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL database environments.
Certification & Licenses
  • Valid Class G Driver?s License, or the equivalent, with no more than six (6) accumulated demerit points, permitting you to drive an automobile in Ontario with full driving privileges.
  • Microsoft Certification in Windows Server 2016 (MCSA) is highly desirable.
