The System Administrator plays a pivotal role in ensuring the stability, integrity, and security of NLSchools' information technology systems. This position is responsible for the effective installation, configuration, management, maintenance, and security of core IT systems, including physical and virtual servers, operating systems, directory services, and critical applications. The primary purpose is to guarantee the high availability and reliability of technology resources essential for supporting the educational mission and administrative functions of NLSchools. The scope of duties requires a broad skill set, often bridging systems management with direct support for users and educational applications across multiple sites.
Key Responsibilities
:
Core Infrastructure Management: Manage, maintain, configure, and install core IT infrastructure, encompassing physical and virtual servers, operating systems, and directory services. Perform daily monitoring of system performance, proactively identify potential issues, and troubleshoot emergent problems.
System Security Implementation and Maintenance: Implement, manage, and maintain comprehensive system security measures, including configuring security tools, applying patches, monitoring for vulnerabilities and intrusions, and responding to security incidents.
User Account and Access Management: Manage the full lifecycle of user accounts, security permissions, and access controls across diverse platforms like Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft 365, and other critical systems.
Critical Application Support: Provide essential technical support for vital educational and corporate applications (e.g., Financial, HR, online educational applications). Serve as Tier 2 and Tier 3 technical support for complex system-level problems.
Hardware Lifecycle Management: Manage the complete lifecycle of core IT server assets, including assessing needs, planning refreshes, coordinating procurement/installation, and disposing of obsolete equipment.
System Documentation and Reporting: Create, update, and maintain documentation for system configurations, procedures, and changes. Generate regular reports on system performance, security status, and inventory.
Major System Updates and Disaster Recovery: Plan and coordinate major system updates and version upgrades. Participate in the development, testing, and refinement of disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
Qualifications and Experience
:
Education
A 2-3 year specialized post-secondary diploma in network and systems administration, providing hands-on training in networking, cloud computing, and security.
Experience
Minimum three (3) years of related work experience.
Key Knowledge & Skills
:
Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of Windows Server (current and previous versions), Linux server administration, VMware vSphere and/or Microsoft Hyper-V.
Networking: Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing, firewall principles, and wireless standards.
Directory/Cloud Services: Expertise in Microsoft Active Directory design, GPO management, and significant experience administering Microsoft 365 (Azure AD, Intune).
Security: Solid understanding of cybersecurity fundamentals, including patch management, vulnerability assessment, MFA, and incident response procedures.
Scripting: Demonstrable ability to automate tasks using tools such as PowerShell.
Problem-Solving: Exceptional analytical and diagnostic skills to effectively identify, isolate, and resolve complex technical problems across diverse systems and platforms.
