Annual salary: $ 95,100.00 - 102,500.00


What you'll do




Provides technical advice and guidance to internal Operations staff and external contractors on the assembly, installation,
SF6/CF4/N2) gas filling and testing of low/medium/high voltage (24vdc-250vdc and 24vac-500kv) switchgear equipment.


Develops and prepares procedures and techniques for equipment erection and testing as required. Acts as the designated


field delegate for the Commissioning Engineer and Professional on Record for low/medium/high voltage switchgear


equipment.




Conducts a variety of complex tests (such as circuit breaker timing analysis, partial discharge analysis, insulation integrity
analysis and high potential testing analysis) and/or provides specialized advice to others on the application of performance


and analytical testing of electric equipment, plant and safety equipment for low/medium/high voltage switchgear equipment.




Tests, measures and analyzes the condition of newly installed low/medium/high voltage switchgear equipment to ensure
compliance with Engineering Standards.




Provides testing procedures and process input into Engineering Standards for acceptance testing such as Site Inspection
and Field Inspection Test Reports.




Assists Construction Officers and Construction Managers with ensuring work performed complies with WorkSafe BC
regulations and applicable BC Hydro safety practices.




Conducts complex inspections (such as inspecting metal clad switchgear and interpreting factory and field test results)
and tests to ensure assembled equipment meets technical requirements of switchgear equipment test summaries and


contract specifications. Makes recommendations to resolve any identified problems. Prepares problem reports to identify


deficiencies or damage to low/medium/high voltage switchgear equipment and suggests solutions for Engineer review and


approval.




Provides specialized technical guidance to Operations, Project Delivery, other internal departments and manufacturer
representatives on the assembly and operation of newly installed switchgear equipment.




Researches and develops new Engineering standards with Commissioning Engineers for acceptance testing and
procedures and techniques for new and/or unique switchgear equipment installations and testing.




Performs some or all the duties of the Switchgear Electrical Equipment Technologist 1 job.


Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties which do not affect the rating of the job.

What you bring




Diploma from an Institute of Technology in Electrical Engineering with Power Option or an electrical trades qualification
(such as Electrician or Winder).




Preference will be given to those who have completed a GTT program or additional certified electrical training.

Six (6) years of related experience working in energized substations and generating stations performing gas filling,
building and testing of switchgear low/medium/high voltage equipment.




Successful completion of training in First Aid, PSSP Category 5, WPP Category B, QEW, WHIMS, Confined Space Entry,
Fall Arrest, Transportation of Dangerous Goods and applicable manufacturers' related courses; or must be completed


within one (1) month of starting in the job.




Must hold a valid class five (5) driver's licence.

Frequent exposure to construction sites with energized equipment both inside buildings and outside areas. Exposure to


heights including operating aerial lifts with occasional work in confined spaces. Regular exposure to poor weather


conditions, extended unaccompanied travel via vehicle or plane and manual moving of test equipment and job related tools.


Regular and significant travel throughout the province for periods up to three weeks at a time is expected of this role type.




Preferred locations: Burnaby, Vernon or Prince George, British Columbia, Canada. Locations outside the Lower Mainland


may require additional approvals internally.
