Role Description
Brainiacs is looking for a patient, energetic, and safety-focused
Swim Instructor
to join our team. In this role, you'll help children (and sometimes adults) build confidence in the water, develop proper swimming techniques, and enjoy a positive, encouraging learning experience.
Our location is in North Van, close to a bus line and a couple minutes from the highway.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, organize, and conduct swim lessons for various age groups and skill levels following the program curriculum.
Create a fun, supportive, and inclusive environment that encourages learning and participation.
Demonstrate and explain swimming techniques clearly and effectively.
Supervise participants closely to ensure safety at all times.
Enforce pool safety rules and maintain awareness of all swimmers in the water.
Provide individualized feedback to help students improve their skills.
Communicate regularly with parents or guardians about progress and goals.
Assist with pool setup, lesson equipment, and cleanup before and after sessions.
Report attendance, incidents, and student progress to the Program Coordinator.
Stay current on best practices for aquatic instruction and water safety.
Qualifications
Minimum age: 16+ years (or as required by local regulations).
Current certifications in
Lifesaving / CPR / First Aid
(required).
Water Safety Instructor (WSI)
or equivalent swim teaching certification preferred.
Prior experience teaching or coaching children (preferred but not mandatory).
Strong communication, patience, and leadership skills.
Ability to remain calm and responsive in emergency situations.
Enthusiasm for promoting safety, confidence, and fun in the water.
Work Schedule & Environment
Flexible schedule: weekday afternoons, weekends, and/or seasonal camp sessions.
Outdoor pool environment.
Physical activity includes demonstrating strokes, entering/exiting the pool, and supervising in warm/humid conditions.
