Position Overview
Delivers course content and examines participants following established YMCA criteria.
Maintains regular and predictable attendance. Secures a substitute if unable to cover scheduled shift.
Develops and implements sequential weekly lesson plans.
Recognizes participant learning styles and delivers content accordingly.
Coaches and develops participants to meet success.
Communicates (verbal and written) child's progress to parents and supervisors.
Maintains accurate, up to date weekly progress sheets and records for participants.
Takes attendance, ensures participants are signed into and out of the program.
Perform duties such as clean the pool deck (deck toys should be stored when not in use). Ensure pool deck remains uncluttered. Deck walk-around should be done to ensure no garbage or debris are on the deck or window ledges.
Actively participates in scheduled programs, meetings and special events
In collaboration with individual program members, program volunteers and YMCA program staff, assists and encourages program members to access additional appropriate programs offered at this location.

General YMCA Responsibilities
Demonstrates appropriate behaviours in line with our mission, vision and values as reflected in our YMCA competencies; takes a member focused approach to increase their understanding of programs offered across the association. Represents the YMCA and the association in a professional manner.
Understands the legal responsibilities and moral imperative to report suspected child abuse to Child Protection Services.
Understands the importance of the volunteer staff partnership and integrates the value of philanthropy and volunteerism in dealings with members, volunteers, donors and staff.
Other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications
Current certifications in the following Lifesaving Society awards: Bronze Cross, Workplace Standard First Aid & CPR-C.
Current Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Check
Current YMCA or Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor certification.
Previous experience instructing swim lessons an asset.
Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) certification is an asset.
Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication (verbal & written) with members, staff and volunteers.
Organizational skills.
Commitment to working in a socially inclusive environment responding with sensitivity and personal awareness to the diverse needs of members including visible and non-visible dimensions of diversity.
Flexibility regarding assigned hours of work - evenings and weekends
