The Faculty of Social Work at the University of Regina invites applications for one Sessional Lecturer to teach the following in person (Saskatoon) course during the Summer 2025 semester:




SW 390 - Communication Skills in Social Work Practice

This course specifically focuses on the development of skills necessary for competent social work communication in a variety of social work roles and settings. An introduction to communication theory is provided with an emphasis on skill development for students. Role plays and recorded sessions are required.



The semester class period is from July 2, 2025 to August 16, 2025 with the final exam period running from August 20 - 23, 2025.




Sessional Lecturers that are teaching in person classes are expected to teach synchronous classes throughout the semester in person on campus.



Expectations for Sessional Lecturers include, but aren't limited to, the following:

• Preparing the course outline, designing relevant assignments, evaluating and grading student work, and submitting student grades by the required deadline.
• Teaching course content that follows the course description, established learning objectives, and university academic guidelines.
• Delivering lectures throughout the semester.
• Encouraging and maintaining a safe and collaborative classroom environment.
• Providing regular support to students on course work during office hours, and as required by students.
• Consulting with the Associate Dean (Undergraduate Programs) on academic or student- related matters as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

• Master of Social Work ( MSW )
• Demonstrated related experience appropriate to the course content description as listed above;
• Superior communications skills (both written and verbal);
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail;
• Recent teaching experience in a post-secondary environment is considered an asset.

Physical Demands Pay Grade Faculty Sessional Salary Range As per URFA Collective Agreement Status Term Work Hours
This course is a condensed intensive format. The Sessional Lecturer is expected to teach on campus in-person in Saskatoon (synchronous) for each of the lectures, be in the classroom 10-15 minutes before each class starts, as well as offer regular office hours for their students each week.

• Wednesday, August 6th Full Day from 8:30 - 4:00 (6.5 lecture hours)
• Thursday, August 7th Full Day from 8:30 - 4:00 (6.5 lecture hours)
• Friday, August 8th Half Day from 8:30 - 12:00 (3.5 lecture hours)






IN CLASS WEEK 2: August 11-15

Location: On Campus - Regina• Monday, August 11th Group Work / Assignments (completed outside of class time)
• Tuesday, August 12th Full Day from 8:30 - 4:00 (6.5 lecture hours)
• Wednesday, August 13th Full Day from 8:30 - 4:00 (6.5 lecture hours)
• Thursday, August 14th Group Work / Assignments (completed outside of class time)
• Friday, August 15th Group Work / Assignments (completed outside of class time)
