This posting will be used to hire up to 8 positions
Sustainability Ambassadors will be stationed within cafeterias in high-traffic times as well as at various on-campus events to sort waste and improve UW's waste diversion and contamination rates. Ambassadors will also table and engage with the campus community in a variety of ways including bin-side education and facilitating workshops in order to help enhance general sustainability knowledge and awareness regarding campus-wide sustainability procedures.
While this is a variable hour position (0-15 hours per week), Sustainability Ambassadors typically work 5-15 hours per week from September-November and January-March. There is also some potential for casual work in December and spring/summer 2026.
Shifts and event opportunities will vary - evenings and weekend availability is an asset.
Responsibilities:
Outreach and engagement: guiding campus community on proper sustainability-related procedures and information (tabling, class talks, bin-side education, workshop facilitation).
Waste management within day-to-day operations and at campus-wide (internal/external) events (sorting waste, waste education, and fulfilling campus recycling and asset disposal requests).
Could entail lifting bags of compost and other waste.
Complete various UW and CSO trainings (online or in-person, on or off-site).
Qualifications:
Must have passion for sustainability-related topics and willingness to learn.
Must have written and oral communication skills.
Must be open to handling waste with proper PPE.
Must be punctual and have the ability to manage multiple simultaneous priorities.
Ability to work independently and within a team.
An equivalent combination of education, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.
Condition(s) of Employment:
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
Must be a full-time student at the University of Winnipeg (9 credit hours/term).
Must be available for a 3-hour Orientation on August 25 and 26, 2025.
