Survey Technologist/party Chief

Burnaby, BC, Canada

Job Description

As GeoScan’s Survey Technologist/Party Chief, you will be supported and encouraged to grow with every opportunity. If you’re experienced in legal surveying, and construction layouts and have supplemental AutoCAD drafting skills, this might be the job for you. We’re looking for someone to manage a field crew and perform field survey work for various industries. This role will be in Burnaby or Vancouver Island.
GeoScan provides services for the entire lifecycle of the construction project, and you’ll benefit from this full-scope approach by cross-training, working with spatial data modeling and 3D environments, and getting experience beyond the traditional land surveying and boundaries projects.
As our Survey Technologist/Party Chief, your day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Performing surveys
  • Recording and analyzing data
  • Preparing detailed CAD technical drawings and professional report
  • Utility locating using Ground Penetrating Radar and Electromagnetic fields

On your resume, we will be looking for the following:
  • Minimum 2 years of field survey experience
  • Confident understanding various types of plans including legal survey plans and engineering design
  • Completion of a recognized postsecondary program related to surveying and geomatics or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Experienced with survey equipment including Robotic Total Stations and RTK GPS
  • Willing and able to work outside in the field in all weather conditions
  • Willing to travel throughout the Lower Mainland, the Interior and Vancouver Island as required for work assignments
  • Strong computer skills; expertise in Autodesk C3D considered an asset

During the interview process, we will be looking for:
  • How you demonstrate our shared value set of excellence (pushing yourself to be the very best), innovation (your ability to try new things and be okay with failing), community (how you give to your community, either micro or macro) and honesty (how you own your mistakes, even if it might mean you don’t always look as good as you hoped!)
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills: your ability to communicate to all levels of an organization with a positive, proactive attitude. This includes understanding how to read a room and meet the needs of the team!
  • Examples of excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills through asking good questions and completing solid analysis
  • Examples of your ability to work independently and autonomously, as well as collaboratively across several teams
  • Knowledge of construction processes and legal surveys in BC
  • Demonstrated examples of leading surveying projects and teams
  • Ethical and honest in approach
  • Examples of technical proficiency in survey methods

Why GeoScan?
  • Competitive compensation with overtime wages for evening and weekend jobs
  • Medical, dental and vision insurance
  • Every other Friday off
  • At GeoScan, paid sick days can be used to take care of your immediate family (not just yourself)
  • Customizable benefits package including options for RRSP, extra vacation, and personal use of a company car
  • Company holidays: we go camping in the summer and skiing in the winter
  • Exposure to geophysical and archaeological projects
  • The opportunity to become an employee-owner
