King Animal Hospital, a newly constructed Equine and Small Animal Referral and Emergency Hospital, is seeking experienced Animal Care Attendants to join our team!
Our hospital is a 60,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility located on 50 acres in King City, Ontario, and will offer specialty referral, rehabilitation, and emergency services.
The Animal Care Attendant (ACA) reports to the Lead ACA and will work alongside Registered Veterinary Technicians, Veterinarians and Veterinary Specialists to provide high-quality care and support to animals, helping to maintain their health and welfare.

Position Summary:
The Surgery Animal Care Attendant plays a crucial role in supporting the surgical and neurology teams in the care and preparation of small animal patients. This position requires a high level of attention to detail, physical stamina, and a strong commitment to maintaining a safe and sterile environment for surgical procedures. The successful candidate will assist with patient handling, preparation, surgical setup, equipment maintenance, and post-operative care, ensuring the highest standard of patient safety and efficiency in the surgical department.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Handling & Surgical Preparation:
Assist with restraining animals for catheter placement, intubation, and other procedures.
Shave and prep patients for surgery following aseptic protocols.
Move patients safely into the surgical suite and assist in positioning them for procedures.
Assist in the setup of surgical monitoring and anesthetic machines.
Provide support to the surgical team, including scrubbing in when necessary.
Surgical Support & Sterilization:
Follow the direction of the OR Attendant, Lead Surgery Coordinator, and Anesthesiologist to ensure smooth and efficient procedures.
Set up the operating room with necessary instruments, supplies, and sterile materials.
Assist in cleaning, disinfecting, and restocking the operating room and surgical suites.
Ensure proper sterilization and maintenance of surgical instruments and equipment.
Adhere to strict infection control protocols to maintain a sterile surgical environment.
Clean and disinfect cages, surgical prep areas, and common workspaces.
Maintain cleanliness and organization in all areas, including cleaning up after themselves.
Patient Care & Recovery:
Assist in monitoring and supporting patients during the recovery process.
Walk, feed, and provide basic care for post-operative patients as directed.
Observe patient behavior and report any concerns to veterinary staff.
Neurology & Diagnostic Imaging Assistance:
Support the neurology team with CT and MRI procedures, ensuring proper patient positioning and monitoring.
Assist with X-ray and C-arm X-ray imaging as required.
Maintain and stock imaging areas with necessary supplies.
General Department Support & Teamwork:
Participate in on-call shifts, including after-hours call-ins for urgent surgical cases.
Jump in to assist other departments when needed.
Attend and actively participate in team meetings.
Assist veterinarians, technicians, and other staff with restraining animals and administering medications.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the surgical department, including laundry, instrument care, and supply stocking.
Record observations and treatments accurately in Vet Radar electronic treatment sheets.
Follow hospital protocols regarding patient care, safety, and hygiene.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Prior experience in a veterinary setting, particularly in surgery, is

Comfortable handling and restraining animals, including those under anesthesia.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks such as bending, stooping, and standing for extended periods.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
Willingness to learn and adapt to new techniques and procedures.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a fast-paced team.
Commitment to patient care, cleanliness, and maintaining a professional and positive attitude.
