SOAR Community Services is a long-established health and social service provider in Brantford, Brant County and Haldimand County. We deliver a comprehensive continuum of services across addictions, mental health, housing, justice and employment. We are accredited for our excellence in service provision.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES



The Supportive Housing Program assists clients to secure safe, affordable housing. Clients are supported by a Counsellor and rent supplements are available to help bridge the difference between the client's ability to pay and the market rent to a maximum amount.

As a Supportive Housing Counsellor, you will:

Conduct intake and assessments through case management Provide support counselling and life skills training to clients and monitor their progress towards independence Liaise with landlords and referring agencies Make referrals to community-based withdrawal and/or residential treatment services
Hours of work: Monday - Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm with some flexibility to meet the needs of the program

Annual salary starting at $47,288 plus shift premiums and comprehensive benefits

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS



Have a college diploma in the Human/Social Services field Have a minimum of 2 years' combined student placement and/or paid experience working with individuals with substance use, mental health and concurrent disorders and/or homeless individuals Be proficient in MS Office and be familiar with databases Have access to reliable transportation Be able to manage occasional exposure to vicarious traumatic stress Be able to make regular visits to uncontrolled environments, such as client homes and public meeting locations. This may include exposure to smoking environments. Be able to do some lifting and carrying, including furniture, groceries and needle exchange supplies.
