Job Description

The West Central Women's Resource Centre (WCWRC) provides services and programming to women, gender diverse people and their families in the West Central neighbourhood of Winnipeg. WCWRC is women centered and practices empowerment, inclusion, harm reduction, multi-level, and community economic development philosophies to support women experiencing poverty, homelessness, mental illness, violence, substance use or participating in sex work.

Position Summary:

The Supportive Housing Case Worker will support folks who are transitioning into designated supportive housing units, to maintain permanent housing through a wrap-around, client-centred approach.

Accountability:

The Supportive Housing Case Worker is responsible to and will be supervised by the Manager of Residential Supports Services. To ensure appropriate accounting of hours worked, completed timesheets are to be submitted bi-weekly, by payroll date, to the Manager of Residential Support Services. To enhance the staff team and to be accountable to one another attendance at staff meetings, program meetings, and trainings is required.

Salary:

$25-27/hour, 6% vacation pay, plus a benefits package and matched RSP after 3 months

Time requirement:

75 hours every pay period

Responsibilities:



Case Management



Meet with participants referred to the Residential Support Services Program through the Your Way Home Strategy and follow WCWRC intake procedures Support participants to access Employment and Income Assistance or other appropriate income sources to secure housing Facilitate start up shopping for household supplies upon move in Provide ongoing intensive case management supports with participants to set goals and create plans to reach those goals Minimum of weekly home visits with housed participants to move forward with case management plans. Provide ongoing support to participants regarding tenant's rights and responsibilities Support participants often struggling with complex trauma resulting from experiences such as family breakdown, violence, addiction, mental health, incarceration, child welfare involvement, gang involvement, etc. Provide trauma-informed supports, safety planning supports, and crisis intervention supports as needed Refer participants internally and/or to other service providers as needed Maintain positive working relationships with service providers, and advocate to them on behalf of participants as needed Support participants to prepare for external appointments and accompany participants to offer support and companionship as needed Attend weekly case management meetings with the Residential Support Services Team

Reporting and Administration



Maintain accurate and organized participant related files, statistics, and records of activity, enter data into HIFIS and other information systems, and provide monthly reports to the Manager of Residential Support Services

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



Essential



Driver's license and access to a vehicle required

Excellent advocacy skills as well as knowledge and experience with EIA and housing systems Solid grounding in harm reduction, trauma-informed care, and empowerment-based approaches Strong crisis intervention skills Demonstrated ability to work within anti-racist and anti-oppressive frameworks and actively engage in ongoing learning about these frameworks Case management experience, including maintaining case notes and reporting Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust and rapport with clients and community partners Professional, responsible, and discreet when handling sensitive and confidential information Experience working collaboratively with a variety of community organizations and service providers Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage a dynamic caseload Strong written and verbal communication skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Outlook Strong ability to work collaboratively in a diverse staff team Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision Strong attention to detail and follow-up

Preferred



Lived experience of overcoming housing insecurity, homelessness, poverty and/or marginalization strongly preferred

Post-secondary education in Community Development, Inner City Studies, Social Work or a similar discipline Experience working within the non-profit sector Experience working collaboratively with community organizations Ability to adapt to changing priorities

Working conditions:



Days, with potential on-call evening and weekend hours Daily case management related travel within the community There is a risk of exposure to potentially unpredictable behaviors and situations
