Position Summary
L'Arche Calgary is seeking a compassionate and committed Supported Independent Living (SIL) Program Assistant to support adults with developmental disabilities who live independently in the community. This is a
temporary full-time position for a 6-month contract
, with the potential to transition into a
permanent full-time role
for the right candidate.
The SIL Program Assistant plays a vital role in promoting independence, dignity, and inclusion by providing personalized support based on the individual's program plan. Support areas include personal care, budgeting, meal preparation, medical appointments, community involvement, and emotional well-being.
Key Responsibilities
Support individuals in day-to-day tasks, including hygiene, cooking, cleaning, and shopping.
Assist with personal care while respecting privacy and independence.
Help individuals attend medical and community appointments, and advocate on their behalf.
Encourage community inclusion by fostering relationships and promoting participation in activities.
Maintain regular communication with families, guardians, professionals, and community partners.
Contribute to individualized service planning, progress documentation, and team meetings.
Assist in responding to crisis situations and provide emergency support as required.
Promote the mission and values of L'Arche in all aspects of care and community involvement.
Required Qualifications
Minimum
1 year of experience
working with adults with developmental disabilities (L'Arche experience an asset).
Post-secondary education
in Disability Studies or a related field preferred.
Valid Class 5 Driver's License
and
reliable personal vehicle
(travel required; mileage reimbursed).
Current
First Aid/CPR Certification
.
Training in
Abuse Prevention and Response Protocol
,
Protection of Persons in Care Act
, and
Positive/Restrictive Procedures
.
Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI)
training.
Proficient in
Microsoft Office
(Word, Excel, Outlook).
Satisfactory
Police Information Check,
including vulnerable sector screening.
Skills & Attributes

Strong interpersonal, communication, and advocacy skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team.
Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
