We are looking to recruit a highly motivated, and proactive Support Worker/Personal Assistant to join our small team of established carers in the Hawkshaw area of Bury. You will be working 24 hours a week but must be flexible to cover Monday to Sunday.
Meet our client:
I am a 31-year-old male with cerebral palsy. I am actively recruiting for a support worker/personal assistant to join a team of two already established carers to assist me with maximising my independence and daily routine. I currently reside in an adapted property with my family in the picturesque Hawkshaw' area of Bury.
I consider myself an active, social, and inspiring individual, who prides myself on not letting my condition define or prevent me from living life to the full, developing my learning or trying new experiences. I am an experienced AAC (Alternative and Augmentative Communication) user which assists me with my day-to-day communication and expressing my thoughts and feelings.
I have a job which involves me going into schools and providing managerial support and mentorship to others with regards to communication systems and I am regularly asked to give presentations at international conferences. I enjoy keeping myself fit, challenging myself and engaging in regular community activities such as physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, horse-riding, boccia, drama, wheelchair football and educational courses.
For that reason, I require a person who can drive my adapted vehicle, and possess the following qualities: is highly motivated, flexible, responsible, can adapt in complex situations, confident, has excellent communication skills, is a team player and has a passion for delivering person-centred care.
Self-confidence and initiative are more important than qualifications and experience, as you may find yourself supporting the client giving presentations at national conferences, mentoring children across the Northwest who use communication aids, planning trips away, attending wheelchair football, attending a theatre group, and many other activities.
What is essential is that you can adapt your approach to the requirements of a wide range of formal and informal situations and tailor your support to allow your client to perform to his full potential in whatever situation pertains at the time.
What you will be working:
Part time contract - 24-hours a week between the hours of 8 am 8pm or 9 am to 9pm Mondays to Sundays. Also, must be flexibility to cover staff holidays and/or sickness.
Hourly rate weekday 13.65, weekend rate 14.18.
What you will be doing:
A motivated and enthusiastic male or female required, with a commitment to promoting and maintaining an independent lifestyle for an individual with Cerebral Palsy. You will have the opportunity to develop your skills whilst delivering care to an individual in their own and family home
Undertaking a range of duties to support the client, you will work closely with the other team members to provide the highest standards of health care. To facilitate the client with his activities of daily living, support him with community activities, therapy and his job role which involves mentoring AAC users, giving presentations or attending conferences.
The post requires that you work independently and as part of a team, to a great extent. The post therefore requires that you work and conduct yourself in a manner that is acceptable to the employer. Reliability, integrity and complete trustworthiness are essential attributes in this post.
What you will have:
Full Clean Driving Licence
A genuine interest in providing the best person centre care possible
Previous experience of working with individuals with cerebral palsy or brain injury which is desirable but not essential as full training will be given
Experience of dealing with clients with challenging behaviours, desirable but not essential
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Willingness to learn and develop
Successful candidates will be required to undergo an Enhanced DBS
