Job Description

We are a family looking to hire a part-time support worker for our family member. The ideal candidate is someone who could commit to several years in the position, has flexibility in their life, and is committed to providing stable and enriching support for our family member.

The person you would be supporting is a male in his late twenties with autism and a developmental disability. With the assistance of a full-time support worker and involved family members, he currently has a varied and active schedule during the day from Monday to Friday. He enjoys cooking and baking, working out, swimming, watching Youtube, tobogganing, and listening to music.

The main focus of this position is to be a companion for evening leisure activities outside of the home to complement his existing schedule. This could include going to movies, museums, the planetarium, the Zoo and the Leaf as examples. This position will ideally eventually include assistance with personal care and hygiene activities at home.

The ideal person for this role is someone who is compassionate and patient, who enjoys walking and being outdoors, and who is eager to contribute to a fun and enriched life for our family member. We are looking for someone who has an eagerness to understand the support needs of our family member and provide support and companionship in a safe and caring manner.

Assets include holding a valid drivers license and being comfortable around water and swimming.

Location is in the southwest corner of Winnipeg.

Training will occur during the day Monday to Friday, so you must have some daytime flexibility. Training will occur over a period of approximately 3 months with a wage of $19.00 hourly. Once training is complete, wage will increase to $20.00 hourly.

Pay

Training wage is $19.00/hour

Regular wage will increase to $20.00 following the completion of the probationary and training period of three months.

Medical and dental benefits provided as well as CPP.

Expected Hours

This position is for evening hours typically 5:30pm-8:30pm, one to three times a week, ideally on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday nights. We are open to establishing a schedule that is either consistent week to week, or flexible depending on the week with you. Hours may be extended longer depending on the day.

Training for this position will occur during the day, Monday to Friday, so some daytime flexibility for the first three months is required.
