The role of support provider at ATOL fills a special need. Providing true
support
is about holistic care for a child, for the team whom with which you work and for the community. It is the ability to offer compassion, presence in challenging situations and remain committed when challenges in both your personal life and the professional environment arise.
Having your class 5 divers license with 5 million liability is preferred. All applicants must provide a clean CRC.
At A Taste of Learning we offer a child centred approach to learning and we specialize in supporting individuals with complex needs.
AS A SUPPORT PROVIDER YOU WILL:
Work to support a learner with complex needs in a 1:1 or 2:1 support ratio with support from a teacher and in the temporary absence of a teacher.
Ensure learners are following a programme plan and document learner's strengths, achievements and needs throughout the day.
Take a holistic approach to support the whole child which includes all aspects of life.
Monitor, observe, record and report on behavioural, learning and personal patterns.
Work in high pressure and in high energy environments
Support to offer self-care programmes including teaching and implementing handwashing, oral hygiene, and potty training.
Supporting and implementing mindfulness and wellness programmes
Supporting and implementing physical literacy
Supporting and implementing social skills
Supporting and implementing health education
Supporting and implementing community engagement, including supervising and patriating with learners in community settings such as skating, swimming, gymnastics, curling, etc.
Assist in implementation of instructional programs for designated students by monitoring, observing, recording and reporting on behavioural, learning and personal patterns.
Support learning and skill development activities in worksite and community-based settings.
Carry out personal and health care plans as directed.
Follows established protocol regarding administration of medicine and/or medical procedures.
Assists with the physical safety of learners and assists them with equipment, at and in the swimming pool and during exercise or play activities.
Operates, services, adjusts, and sanitizes specialized personal and medical care equipment.
Prepare classroom and plans activities by gathering resources, including organizing and participating in field trips.
Operate or assists learners in the operation of personal computers, i-pads and other specialized instructional equipment/technology.
Supports learners with PEC systems, and touch chat technology.
May, on occasion, be required to perform other related duties as assigned.
Abide by ATOL's protocols and guiding principals.
QUALIFICATIONS
Relevant training or experience such as ECE, EA or community support worker (preferred)
Class 5 drivers licence (preferred) Novice drivers are okay
SIVA or Non-Violent Crises Intervention Training (preferred)
First Aid (preferred)
Must submit current CRC for children and vulnerable adults (requird)
Demonstrated skills in basic behaviour management
Ability to keep accurate records
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
Ability to work with diverse learners and staff
Reliability
Punctuality
Understanding of complex trauma and reactive behaviours
Physically capable to perform the duties of the role including standing, moving from standing to crouching to sitting, walking and running, moving climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, pushing, pulling, including the ability to lift up to 60lbs.
