Job Description

Duties:

- Revolve around providing mentorship, transportation and skill development for a young adult with Down syndrome and support for their family.

- Provide positive encouragement, support and assistance to a young adult in their home and their community.
- Mentor young adult and create a positive learning environment to learn various life skills to achieve their goals and increase their independence ie., cooking healthy meals, exercising, shopping, interacting and communicating with others, laundry, housecleaning, etc.

- Mentor, support and encourage young adult in building positive relationships, develop stronger interpersonal skills and communication skills. Work with the young adult and family to create opportunities to develop and practice these skills in a safe environment.

- Provide young adult with safe transportation to and from community activities.
- Communicate in a positive and timely manner with young adult and their family.

- Be a support worker for a young adult working in their community.

- Light housework and meal preparation.

Requirements:

- Previous experience in a similar role is preferred.

- Upbeat, positive, compassionate and patient demeanor.

- Strong English, verbal and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills

- Must be 100% trustworthy, reliable and maintain confidentiality.

- Self motivated, outgoing, energetic, positive, encouraging, kind personality.

- Must have a valid Canadian drivers license and use of a reliable vehicle

- Ability to follow instructions, adhere to plans and be flexible with the changing needs of the individual/family.

- Must have a clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.

Job Type: Full-time
