Extreme Weather Shelter Support Worker - On Call/Casual



As an Extreme Weather Shelter Support Worker at Tamitik Status of Women (TSW), you will provide direct support to individuals and groups; assisting them in accessing services, overcoming challenges, and improving their overall well-being. This role requires working closely with clients to ensure they receive the necessary assistance in a safe and respectful manner. You will play a key part in promoting safety, empowerment, and equality for all community members. Guided by feminist principles, you will offer trauma-informed and inclusive services, collaborating with staff and partners to ensure program accessibility. This role also involves advocacy, direct support, and upholding the organization's commitment to social justice and anti-violence initiatives.

Qualifications



Education:

High school diploma or equivalent. Additional certification in social work or a related field an asset.
Certifications:

First Aid and Food Safe preferred.
Experience:

Experience working with vulnerable populations. Proven experience in program coordination or project management.
Skills:

Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Other Requirements:

Clear criminal record check, with a commitment to disclose any changes in criminal record status.

Key Responsibilities:



Client Support and Engagement:

Assist clients with daily living activities, including life skills, housing, and access to community resources. Develop and maintain positive, supportive relationships with clients while setting clear boundaries. Conduct assessments to identify client needs and create personalized support plans. Answer all telephone calls on the crisis line, providing emotional support and crisis intervention as needed.
Documentation and Collaboration:

Document client interactions and maintain detailed, accurate records, logs, and client files. Collaborate with other team members and external agencies to coordinate services. Participate in team meetings and training sessions.
Facility and Operational Duties:

Responsible for completing "Staff Duties" Maintain cleaning and general upkeep as well as detailed/deep cleaning when required to meet health and safety requirements. Prepare healthy, nourishing meals.
Confidentiality and Representation:

Maintain strict confidentiality of client information and any information gained because of the employment relationship. Represent TSW positively and professionally to internal and external publics.
Other responsibilities:

Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment. Perform any other job-related duties as assigned by the supervisor, ensuring alignment with Tamitik Status of Women's mission and goals.

Pay: From $24.72 per hour

Ability to commute/relocate:

Kitimat, BC V8C 1T6: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)
Licence/Certification:

First Aid Certification (preferred)
Work Location: In person
