Support Services Group (SSG) is growing, and we're excited to welcome new Support Workers who are passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of our members. As part of our commitment to supporting new staff, we are pleased to offer the following Staff Recruitment Incentives:
$250 signing bonus upon successful completion of probation and core competencies training
Reimbursement for Standard First Aid certification and Criminal Record Check (based on submission of receipts)
As a Support Worker you will be responsible for providing support to the Members of SSG and assisting them in daily activities while maximizing their freedom, dignity, and independence.
Job Expectations
Transport Members to appointments, leisure activities, and other outings as needed
Interact respectfully and effectively with Members in their home and community
Build positive relationships with Members and co-workers
Support and promote relationships with family and friends
Maintain constructive working relationships with community partners (Care Coordinators, Day Program Staff, etc.)
Support and promote community-based opportunities based on the Member's care plan
Participate positively in team meetings, events, celebrations, and special activities
Follow safe work procedures and rules
Assist with the orientation and training of new Support Workers to promote competency, confidence, and the safety and comfort of Members
Personal Care Duties
Follow individual personal care protocols
Report changes in a member's health to the Team Leader or Coordinator(s)
Assist respectfully with bathing, dressing, eating, toileting, medication, and overall personal hygiene
Encourage Members to reach their highest potential for independence
Support Members in attending medical, dental, and other professional appointments
Social and Recreational Duties
Organize and support recreational/social activities based on the Member's care plan and preferences
Always model appropriate social behaviour
Household Duties
Encourage and/or perform household tasks as outlined in the care plan.
Responsibilities may include:
Meal preparation and cleanup
Laundry, ironing, making beds
Vacuuming, sweeping, mopping
Cleaning bathrooms, kitchens, appliances, windows, mirrors
Assisting with minor home maintenance
Shopping for groceries, clothing, and other essentials
Lawn care and basic property upkeep
Reporting Relationships and Roles
The Support Worker communicates with Coordinators, Team Leaders, and other areas within the organization. The Support Worker reports first to the
Team Lead
(if assigned), otherwise directly to the
coordinators
.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
Excellent written, verbal, and communication skills
High attention to detail with accuracy and confidentiality
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
Ability to work effectively in a team environment
Ability to work with vulnerable individuals with empathy
Working knowledge of email and text communication
Secondary School completion required
