Support Staff provide support to tenants who are residing at Nokoowaayi Supportive Housing so that they may live successfully in a residential setting. Support Staff identify tenant needs and risks and work with them to develop skills in identified areas. Support Staff are also responsible for implementing activities related to the Individualized Service Plans (ISPs) created for each tenant residing in the building.
Nokoowaayi Supportive Housing is a 24/7 program. As such, Support Staff are required to work Days, Evenings, Overnight, and/or Weekends.
Reporting Structure
Reports to: Nokoowaayi Building Manager
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide individualized, person-centered support to the tenants, including assisting with daily activities, appointment reminders, meals, and other activities related to Individualized Service Plans (ISPs).
- Support case management by identifying concerns, reporting issues, and communicating tenant status to the Recovery Coach, Case Manager, and other professionals.
- Monitor tenant mental health and addiction needs, offering additional support when crises arise.
- Support tenants with life-skills education, including housekeeping, self-care, and personal time management.
- Maintain accurate documentation of tenant interactions.
- Track tenant locations using Microsoft Teams/Excel and assist in locating tenants for in-reach staff.
- Work with a multi-disciplinary team. Specifically, liaising with the on-site Case Manager, Recovery Coach, and other in-reach staff as required.
- Support and lead programs for positive meaningful daily activities.
- Other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Support Staff should have:
Education & Experience
- A minimum of 1 year experience in social services, or housing-related fields. Experience working with homeless populations, individuals with disabilities, or other vulnerable populations is strongly preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and maintain effective working relationships with clients, colleagues, and community partners.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- The ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards.
- The flexibility to work shifts during the days, evenings, overnights, and weekends.
- Training in First Aid, Mental Health First Aid, Verbal De-escalation, and Suicide Intervention. (Equivalencies will be considered.)

Other relevant training is provided; however, preference is given to applicants with experience in HIFIS and Access to Information Act training

Other Requirements
Support Staff must:
- Pass a Criminal Background check and Vulnerable Sector check.
- Possess a valid class 5 driver's license.
- Own or have use of a reliable vehicle for work purposes.
Work Location
This position is based out of Nokoowaayi Supportive Housing (416 Stafford Drive North)
Work Environment
- Working directly with individuals with a demonstrated history of homelessness, especially those who are exiting encampments and are working towards recovery.
- Works in an office setting and in the community.
- Works directly with individuals experiencing crisis including emotional, mental illness, and/or addictions recovery.
- Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, and reaching, handling, kneeling, crouching, and bending.
