SOAR Community Services is a long-established health and social service provider in Brantford, Brant County and Haldimand County. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
SOAR Community Services offers a continuum of social housing services to meet client needs ranging from homelessness to independent living. As part of the continuum, we offer Emergency Shelter Intake Services, Transitional Housing and Supportive Housing programs.
Transitional Housing supports individuals aged 18-29 years old by providing a structured, supportive environment designed to help individuals move from homelessness or housing instability toward permanent housing. Transitional Housing clients will have access to SOAR's comprehensive continuum of wraparound supports including mental health, substance use, and employment services to help them build a strong foundation for independence.
As a Support Counsellor, you will:
Assist with established Support Plans
Work collaboratively with the Cornerstone team in order to ensure program delivery to all youth clients
Integrate a harm reduction approach
Help clients develop the skills and resources they need to enhance their social functioning.
Tour the facilities to ensure the residences, clients and grounds are safe and secure.
Monitor, distribute and document medication as required.
Maintain a safe and clean facility
Hours of work
: 0-44 hours per week, shifts may vary including days, afternoons and nights. Including some statutory holidays and weekends.
Training
: Initial comprehensive training related to all aspects of the role, as well as access to ongoing professional development.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Hourly Wage: $21.30 plus shift premiums

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Have a college diploma in a Human/Social Services field.
Have a minimum of 2 years' combined student placement and/or paid experience working with youth with substance use, mental health and/or homeless issues.
Be proficient in MS Office and be familiar with databases.
Have access to reliable transportation, as some travel may be required.
Be able to manage frequent exposure to direct and vicarious traumatic stress.
Please also note that the successful candidate will be required to provide a police vulnerable sector check as a condition of employment, however strong consideration is made to the type of offense.
