Your role

Under the direction of the Senior Manager, Transmission Operations, the Supervisor will manage resources and maintain and operate CBC / Radio-Canada\'s transmission and distribution facilities for the Atlantic Region in an efficient and effective manner. This position is dependent on the needs and priorities of the media component with a focus to ensure that viewers and listeners are provided with CBC/Radio-Canada\'s over the air services.

To achieve this, the incumbent must:

  • Supervise 18 persons working in different locations across Newfoundland & Labrador, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, who are specialized in digital television transmitters (ATSC), AM & FM transmitters, related broadcast equipment, antennas, towers, various RF systems, and satellite downlinks.
  • Assign staff to ensure both preventive and corrective maintenance needs are met, assess individual performance and recommend improvements as required and establish training needs for all employees.
  • Support the implementation of Transmission projects throughout the region in collaboration with the Engineering group.
  • Plan and administer operating budgets to meet financial targets.
  • Participate in the establishment of appropriate technical solutions to meet the needs of clients and projects.
  • Assist the Senior Manager in meeting the needs and requirements of the service as well as the achievement of regional objectives.
  • Represent CBC/Radio-Canada at industry events.
Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate with the following:
  • Post Secondary diploma in Electronic Technology, telecommunications program. A bachelor\'s degree in a relevant discipline will be considered an asset
  • Five (5) years experience in a relevant and related field
  • Extensive knowledge of transmission infrastructure, AM, FM, DTV (ATSC), towers and industry standards. Extensive and varied knowledge of methods of transmitting television / radio broadcasts, technical equipment, antennas, IP and network technologies and satellite communication infrastructure
  • Good knowledge of the electrical, mechanical and architectural systems of a transmission facility
  • Extensive knowledge of the safety aspects in an environment of high voltage, radio/television broadcasting
  • Ability to focus on tasks and problem solving in an environment where he / she has to manage and track multiple files at once. Ability to work in multi-task mode on a daily basis
  • Organizational skills and knowledge of budget management, project management, business practices, contracts, negotiation, finance and IT
  • Strong resistance to stress, ability to react rapidly to unforeseen technical or construction problems on site and to find effective solutions
  • Ability to innovate and develop effective methods to reduce operating costs while maintaining the quality of services
  • Ability to manage and mentor technicians with varied skillsets
  • Great communication and interpersonal skills
  • Availability 24/7 to respond at all times to emergencies, evenings and weekends included
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English. Knowledge of French is an asset
  • A valid driver\'s license
  • Ability and interest to travel to sites and occasional night work. Trips can involve the use of 4X4, ATV, snowmobiles and sometimes small aircraft
