Looking for a new and exciting opportunity? We are looking for a Supervisor, Signals to join our team!
What You Will Do
--------------------
Reporting to the Manager, Signals, this position is responsible for planning, coordinating and supervising the activities related to the installation, maintenance, diagnosis and repair of equipment, systems, and/or infrastructure related to area of assigned responsibility. You will be carrying out project management activities related to improvement and capital projects and will be responsible for the financial control and reporting for the capital projects. You will ensure appropriate training for subordinate staff and carry out administrative tasks such as budgeting, estimating and preparing written reports concerning operations and employees.
In addition, the incumbent will be eligible for a Responsibility Premium once the incumbent has attained the full job rate for one year.
Other responsibilities of your role will include:
Coordinating and supervising work carried out by the signal section workforce involving the installation, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of signal and train control systems and equipment
Maintaining a variety of electronic, electrical, mechanical, electro-mechanical, and computerized equipment integral to the subway/RT signal and train control systems which incorporate solid state coding, mini/microcomputers, supervisory systems, and interlocking systems
Diagnosing signal problems with minimum disruption to service
Inspecting servicing, adjusting and replacing any faulty parts on signal related equipment including electrically powered switch machines, train-stops, signals, axle counter blocks, loops, power supplies, uninterruptable power supplies, batteries, modems, cables, control panels, digital destination signs, computers, terminals etc.
Overhauling, repairing and calibrating relays, and various test equipment such as meters, and scopes
Investigating injuries, accidents, property damage, or other incidents or problems which may arise, and initiating corrective action or making recommendations
Ensuring that rules and regulations originating in the Union Agreement, TTC, departmental policies, and government legislation (Human Rights, Labour Relations, Occupational Health and Safety Act are satisfied and applied fairly consistently
Recommending the selection of new employees, upgrading or progression of probationary employees and the dismissal of unsuitable employees
Preparing Employee Performance Appraisals on a periodic basis, counselling employees as required and preparing a variety of written reports and correspondence such as staff attendance, monthly workforce requirements, project status, employee vacations etc.
Preparing, developing, monitoring and reporting on budgets, goals and objectives
Developing and implementing long term plans and projects to address operational maintenance deficiencies
Assisting in the development of contract documents, schedules and specifications

What Qualifications Do You Bring?

Your educational background will consist of the completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
Sound knowledge of electrical/electronic maintenance, repair, installation, and testing, inspection methods and procedures as related to subway and RT signal and control systems and associated equipment
Good knowledge of human relations concepts/practices; understanding of pertinent human resources policies and legislation/regulations regarding safety, employment, human rights etc.
Familiarity with budgeting procedures and practices; and knowledge of the Collective Agreement and TTC policies and procedures applicable to the work
Sound judgement, well developed analytical and problem solving skills
Good supervisory, administrative, organizational and interpersonal skills, as well as effective verbal and written communication skills
Ability to quickly acquire Subway/SRT Rule Book certification, and knowledge of relevant collective agreements
