We are looking for a Supervisor, Procedures & Controls to join our team!What You Will DoReporting to the Capital Project Delivery Manager, you will be responsible for coordinating and developing comprehensive studies involving investigating, developing/amending, and implementing practices, procedures and work methods for the inspection, repair, modification, rehabilitation and maintenance activities associated from the Operating & Infrastructure (O&I) group's assets. This involves researching methods and procedures to ensure electrical/electronic equipment are maintained in a quality state at an efficient cost; presenting recommendations to senior management and coordinating the implementation of approved changes. You will support frontline operation, Subway Infrastructure and Streetcar Infrastructure work activities, by ensuring work methods and procedures are maintained and technical updates and procedural manuals for the O&I group are accurate and made available in a timely manner.You will also be responsible for the supervision of direct reports with emphasis placed on developing Standard Operating Procedures and Work Methods as required by the delegation of department activities to meet Section requirements, employee performance and development, and employee health & safety.Other responsibilities of your role will include:

  • Planning, directing and coordinating day-to-day activities with respect to the investigation, development, and implementation of practices, procedures and work methods for the inspection, repair, modification, rehabilitation and maintenance of all electrical/electronic equipment maintained by the O&I group
  • Investigating, developing/amending, and implementing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Ensuring staff are liaising with the O&I group and other TTC departments, analyzing and evaluating existing procedures, workflow, work methods, standard practices, inspection schedules, etc.
  • Ensuring existing procedures and work methods are documented and technical feasibility research conducted into their improvement and/or creating new procedures to achieve optimal maintenance and inspection practices in accordance with environmental & safety regulations, and established industrial standards
  • Ensuring test procedures are established to gauge the efficiency/effectiveness of recommended changes
  • Ensuring the researching and provision of engineering calculations/services to provide engineered advice to revised or new maintenance practices and procedures
  • Presenting recommendations to Senior Management regarding new or revised standard operating procedures
  • Coordinating the implementation of new or revised procedures within the O&I group and other TTC departments such as Safety, Training, Plant Maintenance, and Subway Operations (Rail Cars & Shops)
  • Ensuring published procedures, drawings, manuals, etc. are made available to operating staff
  • Coordinating and monitoring Quality Assurance & Safety Programs
  • Providing assistance to O&I staff and other supporting departments
  • Supervising and managing a staff of Technical Writers and performing various other related administrative duties

What Qualifications Do You Bring?
  • Your educational background will consist of the completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline (i.e. Engineering) or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
  • Your Professional Engineering designation and registration with the Professional Engineers of Ontario is an asset.
  • Your application will reveal sound knowledge of engineering principles, methods and practices together with an understanding of the relevant inspection, instrumentation and testing, and maintenance procedures including Reliability Centered Maintenance concepts for O&I's equipment.
  • You will have specific knowledge and the ability to diagnose and correct failures in the electrical, electronic, and mechanical components utilized in the O&I systems.
  • Your working knowledge of computers and the ability to review drawings using Computer Aided Drafting & Design (CADD) equipment will benefit you in this role.
  • In addition, you will have good knowledge of applicable electrical codes, TTC design standards, environmental & safety legislation, and how these relate to the Commission's electrical, signal, track and structure systems and their associated assets.
  • Your familiarity with quality assurance and maintenance theories, concepts and practices will be required.
  • You will be able to apply sound judgement, well developed analytical, problem solving, technical design and budgeting skills. You will have effective interpersonal and verbal communication skills, in addition to excellent technical report writing skills.
  • Your ability to plan, co-ordinate and direct activities of subordinate staff towards the development of maintenance and operating practices and procedures will be invaluable in this position.
  • You will have the ability to lead, motivate and coach the staff under your direction and provide direction to consultants/contractors engaged in associated activities.
