Job Description

The Mint is hiring a Supervisor, Plating who can thrive in a dynamic and inclusive environment.


Reporting to the Manager, Plating Operations, the Supervisor, Plating is responsible for the supervision and day-to-day management of a team of plating department staff, maintain and co-ordinate the department's work schedules and activities. The Supervisor will manage and promote a safe working environment, ensuring compliance with regulations and the Royal Canadian Mint's Health & Safety programs. Will coach, mentor and oversee staff performance, training and will supervise employees to ensure that delivery, quality and cost targets are met. The incumbent is responsible for leading a team of approximately 16 people.


What is the plating process at the Mint?

During the plating process, steel coin blanks are coated with nickel and copper plating. Using a series of furnaces to soften steel, Waste treatment systems to process waste plating solutions and machinery to manipulate steel blanks, the Mint Electroplating facility is the leader in Minting technology.

Your Responsibilities:



Supervise employees in the Plating section on a 24/7 shift rotation ensuring that production schedule is achieved while meeting quality and safety standards Develop employee schedules to achieve optimal equipment utilization and ensure efficient flow of materials Liaise with the Planning team to ensure the production plan is in line with business objectives Prepare and administer performance evaluations as required Manage the departmental operations to meet objectives and cost controls Communicate objectives, goals, and operational policies to employees, manage employee attendance and discipline as necessary Maintain a safe workplace complying with all regulatory requirements and the Mint's policies Motivate employees through interpersonal interactions on a regular basis, monitoring, fostering creativity, innovation and empowerment. Promote a positive and professional work environment Lead change and continuous improvement initiatives, utilizing lean principles to improve efficiency Manager priorities, monitor status, and provide required reports to management Collaborate with Quality Systems to ensure production is complaint with quality standards. Follow-up on necessary corrective actions to ensure improvements are successful Regularly review key performance indicators and variances and take action as appropriate Identify training requirements of employees. Ensure that each employee has been appropriately trained for all assigned tasks



This opening is to be filled on on a 24/7 shift rotation according to operational requirements.

Qualifications:



Languages Requirements:




English proficiency is essential



Education & Designation:




University degree or College Diploma in related area or a combination of education and relevant work experience will be considered



Experience:




Minimum of 5 years of related business experience Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience in manufacturing environment (preferably unionized workforce) Experience in modern manufacturing techniques (lean principles) in a leadership capacity

Must possess excellent leadership skills in change adoption, change management Strong interpersonal skills to work with other functional groups, and external parties Ability to communicate with employees clearly, concisely and accurately Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality and profitability Ability to lead, train and motivate employees Ability to make decision with sound judgement and execute on decisions with quantifiable results Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload while paying attention to details Strong Microsoft Office skills, advanced Excel ability Experience working shift work is preferred
