Job Description

Under the direction of the Manager of Data and Strategic Support Services the Supervisor of Data Support Services is responsible for the supervision of the processing, access, and production of assessment and taxation data, including the supervision of the annual billing of Business Tax and supplementary billing of Realty and Business Tax.


This Individual provides assistance in strategic planning, as well as policy and procedure development, to ensure the Integrity of both the assessment and taxation data and proper control of data processing activities in support of the departmental business functions

As the Supervisor of Data Support Services

you will:



Plan, organize, direct, and manage the processing of assessment and taxation data in support of operational requirements. Coordinate and monitor the adjusting of both the assessment and taxation rolls, for realty and business due to changes in assessment. Plan, organize, and supervise the work for the Data Support Services Division. Produce and distribute the Realty, Personal Property, and Business Assessment Rolls, Notices, and Preview Letters. Produces the Business Tax annual billing and assists with Realty Tax annual billing Prepare and/or assist in the preparation of a variety of divisional reports and correspondence. Other duties as assigned

Your education and qualifications include:




Diploma in Business Administration or related field. Equivalent training and education maybe considered.

Completion of finance or accounting courses.

Certificate in Real Property Assessment would be considered an asset.

A professional accounting designation would be considered an asset.

A minimum of 30 months of previous related experience.

Previous experience performing administrative and supervisory duties.

Ability to plan, supervise, and evaluate the work of staff.

Ability to provide strong team leadership and direction to staff.

Basic knowledge of Assessment and Tax Roll maintenance procedures.

Thorough knowledge of financial records and systems.

Ability to analyze and interpret complex accounting, financial, and statistical reports.

Ability to make independent decisions, and to formulate recommendations.

Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with staff at all levels and with external departments and organizations.

Ability to manage change in a complex business environment.

Ability and aptitude for project management.

Working knowledge of data processing applications.

Ability to maintain a positive attitude towards customers, and to deal with difficult situations effectively in a professional and productive manner.

Ability to handle stressful situations, sensitive issues, and irate individuals with tact and diplomacy.

Ability to quickly acquire a thorough knowledge of the legislation and by-laws governing assessment and taxation.

Knowledge of financial computerized systems.

Ability to utilize a personal computer, including spreadsheets and database applications.
