However, periodically may be asked to work in other AFSC branches. Travel in these circumstances will be reimbursed according to AFSC's Employee and Board of Directors Expense Policy.
Reporting to the Manager, Financial Reporting and managing a team of Financial Analysts, the Supervisor, Financial Reporting provides leadership and technical expertise to deliver accurate, timely, and high-quality financial reporting. This role brings depth in financial reporting judgment, including interpreting accounting standards, preparing position papers, and supporting complex accounting decisions, while reducing reliance on senior leadership for technical escalations.
In addition to overseeing core reporting activities, this role plays a key part in transforming and continuously improving the financial close process, leveraging strong process design, digital skills, and change leadership to drive efficiency and sustainability.
What will your growth opportunities look like in this role?
Deepen expertise in complex accounting judgments, including interpretation of new or changing accounting standards and disclosure requirements.
Lead financial reporting transformation initiatives, including close optimization, automation, and process redesign.
Build advanced leadership capability by coaching, developing, and growing future financial reporting leaders.
Strengthen strategic influence through contribution to reporting frameworks, position papers, and executive-level insights.
What will you be responsible for?
Preparing and/or reviewing accounting position papers and technical memos, including accrual and materiality assessments.
Leading the preparation and review of full sets of financial statements, including drafting and updating financial statement notes and disclosures.
Providing clear financial narratives and variance explanations to support internal and external stakeholders.
Driving continuous improvement initiatives across the close process, including planning, sequencing of activities, automation, and use of digital tools to reduce cycle time.
Leading and contributing to projects and change initiatives related to financial reporting, systems, and process improvements.
Supporting audit coordination activities and acting as a key point of contact, while building audit readiness across the team.
What are we looking for from you?
Demonstrated experience applying accounting standards and handbook guidance to real-world reporting, policy, and process decisions.
Experience preparing or evaluating position papers, accounting treatments, and financial statement disclosures, including notes.
Comfort operating in complex, regulated, or highly governed environments (public sector, public companies, large private organizations, or public accounting).
Strong change leadership skills, with experience leading or significantly contributing to process redesign, continuous improvement, or digital tool adoption.
A people-focused leader who develops capability, empowers team members, and sees leadership as being in service to others, not task management.
Qualifications
CPA designation preferred (or working towards).
While not mandatory, experience gained through designation pathways (often including public accounting or similarly complex environments) is considered a strong asset for this role.
