Your Opportunity:

Reporting directly to the Manager, Operations of EMS. The EMS Operations Supervisor performs a leadership role within EMS. This position is responsible and accountable for providing the direction, leadership and organization of the activities of EMS in support of the vision, mission and business plan of Alberta Health Services. The position is responsible and accountable for making front line operational decisions in relations to staffing and deployment, while providing frontline leadership. This position plays an instrumental role in providing front line support through employee engagement, performance management, which includes learning plans, performance appraisals and also is responsible for hiring ACP and PCP Paramedics. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay. Upon negotiation relocation expenses for external hires maybe offered according to the AHS Directive HR-13-01. Slave Lake is a young and diverse Town, offering a small city feel, but is also close to big city amenities with Edmonton only 256 km away. The Town offers endless opportunities for an outdoor enthusiast from rugged wilderness hiking to camping, hunting, fishing and swimming, the Lesser Slave Lake boasts seven kilometers of pristine, white sand beaches.

Description:

The EMS Operations Supervisor performs a leadership role in the EMS division and reports directly to the EMS Operations Manager. This position is responsible and accountable for providing the direction, team leadership and organization over the activities of the zone & district in support of the vision, mission and business plan of Alberta Health Services. This position is responsible and accountable for making front-line operational decisions and having direct leadership responsibility for contributing to the achievement of the goals of Emergency Medical Services. The EMS Operations Supervisor will develop and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders including other health professionals, first responders, fire rescue, and police agencies. The EMS Operations Supervisor is also responsible for: Daily Operational field management of pre-hospital care, patient transport services and special operations. Planning, allocating and managing physical, human and fiscal resources and assesses resources requirement to meet the greatest needs in service delivery. Promoting innovative practice and quality improvement to enhance service provision consistent with regional and provincial objectives. Safety performance of the staff and the development and implementation of mitigation strategies relative to the prevention or management of lost time events, including creation of modified return to work programs. Communication to staff related to corporate, departmental and branch operations, ensuring staff have the information to safely and effectively perform required tasks. Performance management/evaluation, ensuring performance is consistent with established standards, medical protocols, policies and procedures to ensure quality patient care and service delivery.

Required Qualifications:

Graduate of an Alberta College of Paramedic (ACP) approved program and in good standing with the Alberta College of Paramedics. Minimum of five (5) years in an Emergency Service role of progressive leadership, ideally in an organization of significant size, complexity and diversity. A demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development. Valid Alberta Class 4 Operators License with no more than 6 demerits. Effective Communicator with strong organizational skills, influential skills, and client-focused orientation and commitment to providing quality services. Leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching and teaching. Demonstrated ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues. Ability to manage human, financial and physical resources within an operating environment.
Additional Required Qualifications:

Provide ability to foster partnerships while achieving organizational goals within the organization and ideally within a unionized environment. Strong track record in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Effective leadership abilities combined with a strong commitment to operating within a team environment and the ability to motivate and inspire others to achieve common goals. Excellent analytical and decision-making skills. Ability to foster a climate of cooperation amongst, and build solid relationships with the public agencies, government, committees and other partners. Demonstrate ability in conflict and crisis management.
Preferred Qualifications:

Undergraduate or graduate degree in Management, Health Care Administration, Business or Leadership is preferred.
