Our Team

Our Newfoundland and Labrador Operations are an integrated mining, milling, and processing operation. Nickel concentrate from the fly-in, fly-out Voisey\xe2\x80\x99s Bay operation is shipped to our state-of-art Long Harbour Processing Plant where it is refined into low-carbon and high-purity nickel rounds, cobalt rounds and copper cathodes.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Supervisor, Emergency Response to join our Long Harbour Health, Safety and Risk Team. This permanent position will be on a 4x10s schedule (Monday to Thursday OR Tuesday to Friday), or on Monday to Friday schedule, working at the Long Harbour Operations site in Long Harbour, NL.

The Emergency Response Supervisor is responsible for the development, implementation, and continual improvement of the emergency response plan at the Long Harbour Operations site which consists of a broad range of response scenarios including fire, gas response, loss of containment of hazardous materials, and dam/water retaining structure failure. The incumbent must also provide leadership, organization, and vision to coordinate and execute a multiyear drill response plan that utilizing both tabletop, real-life exercises, and crisis management scenarios with internal and external stakeholders to guarantee our readiness to respond and mitigate risk. In addition, the Emergency Response Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of the Emergency Response Team Leads who are accountable for the day-to-day routines, inspections, training, response to emergency calls and incident command. The Emergency Response Supervisor is also responsible for the acquisition, and maintenance of emergency response equipment and assets to ensure that all resources are in place for the protection of people, property, and the environment at the Long Harbour Operations site.

In this position, you will:

  • Develop, implement, maintain, and continually improve the site Emergency Response Plan.
  • Conduct post incident analysis and investigation.
  • Ensure readiness of Emergency Response Team for all response scenarios at the Long Harbour Operations site including but not limited to, fire, gas response, loss of containment of hazardous materials, dam/water retaining structure failure, environmental response, etc...
  • Responsible for recruitment and supervision of the Long Harbour Operations Emergency Response Team.
  • Ensuring 24-hour continuity of Emergency Response Team Leads who are responsible for incident command and leadership of the auxiliary Emergency Response Team.
  • Develop and maintain a multi-year drill response plan comprised of tabletop and live exercises for all risk scenarios present at the Long Harbour Operations site.
  • Lead and support the Management team on all aspects of the Crisis Management processes for the Long Harbour Operations site (i.e., EMQ Net Crisis Management System).
  • Test effectiveness of emergency response critical controls annually as control owner, identifying opportunity for improvements that support overall risk reduction.
  • Support and participate in all Material Unwanted Event (MUE) and Management of Change (MOC) risk reviews ensuring emergency response protocols and controls are accurately reflected in risk assessments and actioned accordingly.
  • Work with the Provincial and Federal agencies to ensure all required programs and systems are in place, complete an alignment exercise with the agencies to ensure the appropriate response and recovery plans and infrastructure are in place.
  • Maintain mutual aid relationships for external emergency response as necessary.
  • Ensure training records for Emergency Response Team Leads and auxiliary Emergency Response Team members are accurately reflected in VES.
  • Ensure the systems and programs which are developed are aligned with NFPA and Vale Standards.
About You

Education:
  • A minimum of a university or college diploma in a related field is required.
  • 2 yr. College Diploma \xe2\x80\x93 1021 Fire Officer or NFPA is considered an asset.
  • Post-secondary education in Occupational, Health & Safety, Process Safety, or related technical discipline is considered an asset.
  • NFPA Firefighter Level I and II.
  • Class 5 or equivalent driver\'s license.
  • Pump Operations, Hydraulics, Driver/Operator Airbrake endorsement.
  • AMFR (Advanced Medical First Aid).
  • NFPA 1081, Industrial Firefighter
  • NFPA 472, Hazardous Materials - min. of Operations.
  • NFPA 1006, Certified Rescue Technician.
  • NFPA Fire Instructor Level 1.
  • NFPA Vehicle Rescue.
  • NFPA High Angle Rescue.
  • NFPA Confined Space Rescue.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience as a Fire Chief/Officer in an industrial setting an asset.
  • Experience in post incident analysis and investigation.
  • Supervisory experience in an industrial high paced work environment.
Skills:
  • Broad understanding of emergency response scenarios in a chemical plant work environment.
  • Competent knowledge of applicable OH&S and NFPA legislation and codes.
  • Strong organization skills to coordinate with internal and external stakeholder to achieve a goal.
  • Ability to apply learnings through debriefs and feedback loops.
  • Able to work effectively in a collaborative environment.
