Under the general direction of the Manager of Streets Maintenance, the Supervisor of Centralized Services is responsible for planning programs, scheduling work, supervising, and monitoring work activities for a number of specialized programs within the Streets Maintenance Division.


Programs include but are not limited to: asphalt resurfacing (milling and mainline paving), asphalt patching and pothole repairs, joint sealing, and snow damage street right-of-way repairs. These programs are essential to ensuring the adequate provision of street maintenance services on a city-wide basis.

, your duties will include:

Evaluate and manage staff through job expectations, performance appraisals, coaching, work performance feedback, progressive discipline and other related human resource functions to ensure operational goals are achieved. Plan, organize, schedule, monitor, and evaluate section maintenance programs to optimize productivity and effectiveness, ensuring all programs fall within budget guidelines. Enforce compliance with established safety legislation, regulations and policies for the protection of all employees, the general public, property, and equipment. Act as a liaison of the Division by attending meetings and preparing reports, correspondence, statistical data and operating procedures to provide information to management, city departments, council, other government departments, private agencies, and the general public. Participate in the development of the Streets Section operating budget for the branch for submission into the Division's operating budget, and manage the branch's budget through daily monitoring of the area's activities. Manage the various fleets of equipment in the branch to ensure the proper equipment is available for employees and that it is utilized properly by coordinating with Fleet Management and Field Support Services.
Manage the area building and marshalling yards by performing inspections and providing corrective actions to ensure adequate storage of materials.

Your education and qualifications include:

Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certified Engineering Technologist is preferred.

Three (3) years of relevant operational experience in leading an Asphalt Resurfacing Program (Milling and Mainline paving).

Experience effectively supervising, managing and leading staff in a large, unionized workplace.

Experience overseeing standard municipal practices in all aspects of road construction and maintenance techniques and practices.

Experience analyzing and interpreting design drawings and specifications as they pertain to street maintenance and construction.

Experience with Microsoft Office Suite applications (e.g. Word, Outlook, and Excel) and ability to learn other applications such as Road Weather Information System (RWIS) and Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) systems.

Strong project management skills.

Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with both external and internal sources, in both team and leadership roles at all levels of the organization, general public and private sector.

Effective problem solving and decision making skills.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and effectively prioritize workload to meet deadlines.

Knowledge of occupational hazards and Workplace Safety and Health regulations.

Effective communication skills both orally and in writing.
