MacEwan University is seeking a Supervisor, Aquatics, for a full-time continuing opportunity with our Sport and Wellness department. Reporting to the Manager, Sport and Wellness, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation of all aquatic facilities, programs and activities. Your role would be ensuring the highest level of safety standards, supervising and leading Aquatic staff including Lifeguards/Instructors, planning and evaluating programming, overseeing pool maintenance and compliance with health and safety regulations while also ensuring delivery of a customer-focused and high-quality experience for patrons.
Key responsibilities include:
Guiding, and supporting the Aquatics staff, which includes assigning and monitoring of workload and performance, onboarding, preparing schedules, and finding coverage for absences;
Actively participating in the recruitment and selection of Aquatics staff to ensure a diverse and capable team, balanced by fiscal responsibility;
Developing recruitment materials such as job postings, screening criteria, interview guides, and screening of applicants for the OOS manager's approval, conducting first level interviews and making recommendations for second interviews;
Coordinating and conducting regular team meetings with Aquatic staff, which includes communicating and translating updates, information, and changes shared by the senior leaders to the Aquatics team to ensure they remain informed and current on operational requirements;
Coaching and completing performance evaluations on Lifeguards and Instructors to ensure safety standards are being met;
Ensuring safety, cleanliness, and compliance with all applicable legislative, regulatory, agency and industry regulations and standards;
Conducting regular safety audits, in-service training, and emergency preparedness drills;
Planning and overseeing the implementation of aquatic programs, including swim lessons, aquatic fitness classes, etc. catering to different skill levels and age groups;
Maintaining accurate records of staff certifications, pool usage, etc.;
Developing and maintaining effective and efficient processes and workflows across multiple service points to ensure a positive user experience; and
Identifying opportunities for process improvements and making recommendations for change and implementation.

Knowledge of public health, safety and sanitary regulations and operational standards applicable to swimming pool operations; and
Proficiency using Intelligenz software would be considered an asset.

QUALIFICATIONS
A minimum of a diploma in recreation, physical education or related field.
Certifications in Intermediate First Aid, Lifesaving National Lifeguard (NL) and Swimming Pool Operator Level 1.
A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience within aquatic programs and facility management.
A minimum of 3 years of experience supervising and leading a team, including coaching, mentoring, and motivating others.
Experience leading and planning training sessions.
Swimming Pool Operator Level 2 would be considered an asset.
Leadership Certification in National Lifeguard Instructor (NLI), First Aid Instructor (FAI), Lifesaving Trainer (T) or National Trainer (NT) would be considered an asset.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
May be required to work evenings and weekends.
The ability to stand on the pool deck for extended periods of time.
The successful incumbent will be required to obtain a Police Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check at their own cost.
