About Our Opportunity

The Supervisor, Adult Protection is designated by the Minister of Seniors and Long-Term Care to administer the Adult Protection legislation, and exercises privileges, duties, and functions of the Minister under the Adult Protection Act. In this role, you are a key collaborator with our partners and ensure greater public awareness that enables the administration of the Act and is responsive to the protective needs of vulnerable adults in accordance with the Act.

Primary Accountabilities

As the Supervisor of Adult Protection, you are accountable for the strategic and operational leadership of Adult Protection through direction, planning, and implementation in accordance with the Adult Protection Act. You are also accountable for the day-to-day operational management to direct, supervise and promote critical thinkers, must authorize all court application pursuant to the Adult Protection Act, ensure effective human resources by establishing performance targets for team members, evaluating, coaching, mentoring, promoting diversity, inclusion, equity, and a healthy workplace environment demonstrating the leadership competencies. The supervisor leads in an environment of continual change and must lead with confidence and decisiveness.

  • Ensuring standardized application of legislation and policy through file audits.
  • Leading and directing supervisory consults.
  • Reviewing and analyzing adult protection reports and statistical information as well as monitoring of target outcomes, standards, benchmarks, and indicators in accordance with the Adult Protection Quality Framework.
You are an important team player in establishing relationships, practices, and procedures as you collaborate with NSHA and/or other government departments and senior leaders to identify and address system gaps and resources for vulnerable adults.

Qualifications and Experience

As our next Supervisor, you will have completed a bachelor\'s degree in a related health field, combined with several years of progressive supervisory experience. A completed degree in Social Work is considered an asset.

To succeed in your role, it is essential that you demonstrate critical thinking abilities along with strong communication skills. You are known as a team leader and key collaborator who works with various partners regarding complex/complicated cases.

You must be able to respond daily to numerous case consults requests, making difficult decisions related to client apprehensions from their home while ensuing the client\' s rights are respected per the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and the Adult Protection Act, working in stressful situations and able to manage high risk, crisis situations, while supporting your staff through challenging, complex, complicated cases, providing information for the provincial AP Coordinator, lawyers, ministers and communications within a tight time frame.

Proficiency with computers, along with Microsoft Suite is necessary. You must also demonstrate knowledge of the aging process, mental illness, cognitive decline, addiction issues, and physical decline. Familiarity with the Adult Protection Act, and related policies and procedures will be considered assets.

Working Conditions

Most of your time is spent in a comfortable office setting with some site visits as required. In keeping with current Public Health guidelines, this opportunity may be fully or partially remote. You will be responsible for ensuring you have an appropriate remote workspace which includes access to the internet.

Your normal work week is 35 hours/week, 7 hours/day (and may require availability 24/7 during times of emergency and working overtime on occasion).

Additional Information

You must possess a valid Nova Scotia driver\'s license, as travel throughout the province is required.

Pay Grade: EC 11

Salary Range: $3,238.10 - $4,047.67 Bi-Weekly
