Our District The Yellowknife Catholic School Board is the governing education body for Yellowknife Catholic Schools as legislated under the NWT Education Act. Yellowknife Catholic Schools (YCS) provides schooling for approximately 1500 students in three schools and one technical centre. YCS employs approximately 230 administrators, teachers, and support staff and has an annual budget of over $28 million. Yellowknife Catholic Schools has provided quality publicly funded education to northern students for over sixty-five years. We are the only faith-based district in the Northwest Territories. Although we are a Catholic school district, we welcome families of all faiths. We encourage our students to be socially responsible as a Catholic Education system. We want them to think critically about faith and to make decisions based on their spirituality and the knowledge that faith promotes being a good person. We use our faith-filled classrooms to explore how to live as people - letting our lights shine in the world. We have several fitness facilities and a vibrant community of the arts. Yellowknife is the capital city of the Northwest Territories, and numerous daily flights connect us to the rest of Canada. The Position The Superintendent is the Chief Executive Officer and the Chief Education Officer and is accountable to the Board of Trustees for the conduct and operation of Yellowknife Catholic Schools. All Board authority delegated to the staff of the District is delegated to the Superintendent. The Superintendent meets with the Board regularly to report on concerns and issues and to review budget considerations. The Superintendent oversees the operations of schools within the school district. The Superintendent works closely with principals at each school to create and implement policies and divide resources among all schools within their district. The areas in which the Superintendent is involved include budget development and management, student achievement evaluation, teacher hiring and terminations, instructional program review and facility management. The Superintendent ensures that educational standards and district goals are met in each school. The Superintendent and the staff of the Central Services Office provide professional advice and educational, administrative, technical, and financial services. They also support and assist school administrators, staff, stakeholders, members of the public, students, and their families to ensure the delivery of quality educational programs and services. Twenty positions are part of the Superintendent\'s team, including two Assistant Superintendents (Business and Learning), one Director of Student Services, two district-based Principals (Student Services and Curriculum & Assessment), three Coordinators (two Indigenous Language & Education, one French Language Education), four Collaborative Teachers (Technology & Innovation, Math Instruction, Student Services, and Religious Education), one Human Resource Officer, four office management staff (Executive Assistant, Finance Officer, Payroll and Benefits Officer, and Administrative Assistant), as well as three school Principals. Required Education and Recommended Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience
Be a practicing Catholic with active involvement in community parish
Master\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in Education or related field
Must hold, or be eligible for a(n) NWT Teaching Certificate
Minimum of five years experience in Senior Education Administration or equivalent leadership experience
Additional five years experience in K-12 teaching/administration
Deep understanding and experience in assessment practices, curriculum, and learning initiatives
Experience in the use of data for continuous school improvement
Experience in fostering respectful learning environments that are inclusive of all people
Experience in building relationships with Indigenous peoples, organizations, and communities
Knowledge of best practices in educational leadership
Knowledge of education finance
Knowledge of the British Columbia curriculum would be an asset
Bilingual (English/French) would be an asset
A Vulnerable Sector Check must be completed
