About Potash

BHP\'s Jansen Potash Project located approximately 140 km east of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan is BHP\'s first and most advanced potash project. Jansen will add diversity and a Canadian presence to BHP\'s global portfolio. Jansen\'s large resource endowment provides the opportunity to develop it in stages, with anticipated initial capacity of 4.35 Mtpa. The BHP Board has recently sanctioned Jansen Project (Stage 1), with a US $5.7 billion investment. The project is now entering the construction phase, with the first potash expected in 2027.

Work Location

This role will be based at the Jansen Mine Site located in Leroy, SK. The associated work schedule will be Monday to Friday.

As this role is not eligible for accommodation in the site camp, the incumbent must live within a reasonable commuting distance of the Jansen site.

Reporting to Operations NPI Manager, the Superintendent Utilities provides technical expertise in the necessary systems, processes and organizational capabilities required to handover, operate and maintain a new asset. Responsible to assist in overseeing and reporting all site activities to ensure contractors are managing daily operational activities to BHP standards. Provides effective leadership and oversight for overall management of the electrical distribution systems, site water treatment and wastewater treatment plants, as well as the ongoing electrical, natural gas, and propane systems support and maintenance tasks.

About the Role

  • Supports effective Interfaces coordination amongst all other areas of the BHP Team Jansen Integrated Project Team (IPT) with the NPI Operational Readiness Team are well established and defined.
  • Ensure required input for weekly, monthly, and other reporting requirements are provided, and ensures electrical contractor compliance to permit (regulatory) requirements - site wide (SaskEnergy, SaskPower, etc.).
  • Active involvement in any incident reviews and ensures that identified causes and recommended procedure changes are actioned.
  • Provide an oversight of all work performed on site on the electrical Maintenance and distribution system, including contractor LOTO compliance to BHP owned facilities and systems and permitting requirements are adhered to.
  • Directly responsible for managing the electricals scopes for the site maintenance and HV contractor at site, as well as the communication requirements with the applicable stakeholders.
  • Directly responsible for managing the Potable Water Treatment Plant (PWTP) and distribution for the site, including all associated maintenance activities, as well as the communication requirements with the applicable stakeholders.
  • Directly responsible for managing the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) operations for the site, including all associated maintenance activities, as well as the communication requirements with the applicable stakeholders.
  • Reviews, approve, and permits as required, the utility tie-in requests to BHP owned assets are compliant (Electrical, Natural Gas & Water).
  • Directly responsible for managing and supporting Crown Corporation activities and work within their Battery Limits and right of ways and serves as the Owner\'s Representative in liaising and communicating all associated Crown Activities across site project and contractor teams as required.
About You
  • A minimum of 7-10 years\' experience supervising construction projects and overseeing contractor activities, asset operational experience in either in mining, oil and gas, or other resource-based industries.
  • Bachelor of Science degree, or Engineering degree with a major in Mechanical or Civil Engineering, or Interprovincial Journeyperson Certificate.
  • Solid interpersonal skills to oversee and mentor, contractors and consultants, and other stakeholders.
  • Site Services supervisory experience on large projects and / or operations will be considered an asset.
