The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Superintendent, Learning & Development to join our Learning and Development team in Thompson, Manitoba. This is a permanent position working on site.

The Superintendent Learning & Development, leads and manages the Manitoba Learning & Development team and works collaboratively with other Managers, Superintendents, and Supervisors within the functional and cross functional areas of the Manitoba Operations to deliver learning and development to Production and Maintenance employees. The Superintendent effectively administers approved training plans through the management of their team and other resources, in turn meeting the current and future business needs of the Manitoba Operations.

The Superintendent is to support the Manager of Human Resources in achieving established goals and objectives through continuous improvement. This role supports the alignment and implementation of both regional and local Learning and Development objectives at the site level in the Manitoba Operations Mines and Surface Plants.

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Manage and lead the Manitoba Learning & Development team to deliver training to all Production and Maintenance employees in the Manitoba Operations to meet all Learning and Development requirements in compliance with company health & safety standards, legislated regulations, functional competency and proficiency, and company policies and standards.
  • Develop and implement the Learning & Development strategy and work plans to deliver training and initiatives to the Manitoba operations.
  • Put processes, routines, and programs in place to deliver training to all Production & Maintenance employees in the Manitoba Operations to effectively in safe, competent, and proficient way and support integration of new employees into their operational roles.
  • Develop strong relationships with all operational customers including plant managers and superintendents to deliver a high standard of training delivery to the business.
  • Source, acquire and coordinate external service providers and instructors to deliver specialized training and meet training needs.
  • Supervise and develop a team of trainers and implement development plans to close gaps to effectively meet all of the sites training needs without depending on acquiring external trainers.
  • Manage the Learning & Development training budgets including input to budget preparation, managing the budget, budget forecasting and making decisions on the appropriateness of upcoming projects and improvements.
  • Plan and coordinate occupational functional training for all departments across the site
  • Ensure Manitoba Operations training reports and requests for information are completed for the purpose of compliance to government regulations and corporate standards.
  • Acts as the Company Signing Authority for legislated Manitoba Modular Training programs.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the VALER training building.
About You

Education:
  • Certified Training and Development Professional (CTDP) certification is preferred.
Experience:
  • 5-7 years of experience in a similar role.
Skills:
  • Skilled user of Excel and other MS tools.
  • Ability to manage changing priorities.
  • Solid background in maintenance, operations and technical areas
  • Demonstrated understanding of budget tracking and working within departmental schedules and budgets.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate, influence, and collaborate with others to build effective working relationships and teams.
  • Strong communication skills and development of concise documents and presentation materials.
