to lead heavy-civil infrastructure projects (highways, bridges, paving, earthworks) from mobilization to final acceptance. You'll own safety, schedule, budget, and quality while coaching Foreman and delivering DOT/MOT-compliant projects ahead of schedule and under budget.
Core Responsibilities
Direct daily roadwork operations: grading, paving, utilities, traffic control, and erosion control
Budget and Reporting: Track costs, material usage, and labor hours. Prepare daily/weekly reports on progress, issues, and forecasts. Resolve on-site disputes or delays.
Safety and Compliance: Enforce health, safety, and environmental protocols, including Alberta Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations, traffic control, and erosion control measures. Conduct site inspections, toolbox talks, and incident reporting
Stakeholder Coordination: Liaise with project managers, engineers, government inspectors, utility companies, and clients. Manage permits, traffic disruptions, and community relations for road closures.
Assess engagement levels, delegate tasks effectively, give constructive performance feedback, and acknowledge outstanding contributions. This fosters a culture of accountability, collaboration, and growth.
Maximize productivity and beat margins through crew optimization and material efficiency.
Key Requirements
Minimum 7+ years
as Superintendent on
roadwork/heavy-civil projects
($5M+) and minimum of 5 years supervisory experience.
Expertise in asphalt/concrete paving, earthworks sequencing, traffic phasing, and MUTCD standards
Proficient in Bid 2 Win; able to read civil plans & specs
Knowledge of road construction methods (e.g., asphalt paving, grading, drainage systems), Alberta Building Code, and environmental regulations. Ability to read blueprints and operate basic site equipment.
Strong leadership and communication abilities; problem-solving in fast-paced, outdoor environments; attention to detail for quality assurance.
Working outdoors in all weather, lifting 50+ lbs, and standing/walking for extended periods. Willingness to travel and work shift rotations.
Valid Class 5 Driver's License with a Driver's Abstract
Standard First Aid/CPR certification.
WHMIS, OHS, and traffic control training.
