We are looking for a Superintendent, PSF to support Rio Tinto Diavik Diamond Mines Inc. The role reports to the Manager, Processing Operations and Business Improvement and is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the facility in Yellowknife. You will lead the PSF (Product Splitting Facility) operations from the time diamond concentrates are sent from the mine site, through the cleaning and sorting processes, diamond royalty valuations, to the final export. Working Mo-Fr in Yellowknife, the key responsibilities of the role are:
  • Ensure the facility is run safely and efficiently
  • Lead diverse team with exceptional skillset through all cleaning, sorting, maintenance, reporting and quality assurance activities
  • Guide, manage & support 12 direct reports of professionals, trades people, lead hands and skilled operators
  • Demonstrate visible leadership and coaching in promoting safe behaviours and an interdependent safety culture as well as fostering curiosity
  • Develop and manage internal training and progression plan for all Operators
  • Develop and manage production plan and targets while upholding quality standards and commitments to both internal and external stakeholders
  • Support the QMR Advisor, Diamonds in managing the facility\xe2\x80\x99s ISO9001 QMS that is the backbone of operations\xe2\x80\x99 quality assurance
  • Ensure department meets quality objectives; provide expert input in SOPs and continuous improvement activities
  • Facilitate and/or run internal and external audits
  • Lead and support risk management and risk assessment activities
  • Own department\xe2\x80\x99s budget and lead all capital and operational projects for the facility
  • Lead procurement activities for facility\xe2\x80\x99s operation; manage both internal support and vendors; work with AP to resolve issues
  • Support & advise Supervisor, Maintenance in maintenance and improvement activities using technical, commercial and project management expertise
  • Drive facility and equipment upgrades and investments, incl. in robotic system and components, semi-automated nitric acid system, and diamond specific machinery
  • Lead contract negotiations with external clients; support and advise contracts team with all vendor agreements
  • Ensure the PSF provides accurate Diamond data and forecasts and identify and implement opportunities for automation in data use and reporting
  • Understanding all aspects of reporting requirements for both internal and external stakeholders and support Advisor, Diamonds in deliveries
  • Analyze large data sets and use learnings to find trends; develop ideas and advise senior management & other stakeholders
  • Designing and maintaining Excel spreadsheets, modeling tools and MS Access databases
  • Manage Rio Tinto\xe2\x80\x99s diamond software and ensure software development continuously meets requirements; manage service provider
  • Support management and other internal stakeholders with expert knowledge of the implications of Federal legislation, Northwest Territories Mining Regulations & Act on the facility
  • Represent Rio Tinto and act as a focal point of contact for Federal Government agencies, the Government of the Northwest Territories, and external clients

  • Degree qualification in engineering, business, commerce, or relevant discipline
  • Demonstrated and well-developed leadership abilities
  • Strong safety mindset and ability to instill safety culture through all aspects of operation
  • Proven experience analyzing and presenting large sets of data, and use mathematical principles and statistics to analyze and resolve operational problems effectively
  • Attention to fine detail
  • Demonstrated ability to drive, implement and manage continuous improvement processes and lean systems
  • Strong planning, organizational, and communications skills
  • Interest and ability to learn expert knowledge in niche field
  • Experience working with government and private sector partners considered an asset
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 considered an asset
  • Knowledge of database design considered an asset
