Duties for this position will include: \xc2\xb7 Manage and supervise the operations and employees of the public works department including providing direction to carry out the necessary work schedule for all municipal infrastructure, utility systems and Town facilities; \xc2\xb7 Supervise and guide employees so they are knowledgeable and capable of effectively performing and carrying out their responsibilities and be readily available to identify and satisfactorily address any issues or concerns of employees; \xc2\xb7 Communicate with contractors and the general public to carry out various public works functions, projects and/or to identify and resolve any concerns that arise; \xc2\xb7 Ensure compliance with applicable safety requirements and implementation of provincial and municipal plans/regulations as well as Town policies and procedures. \xc2\xb7 Oversee Town infrastructure such as all municipal utility water and sanitary sewer systems including lift stations, storm sewer systems, roads, ditches, culverts, manholes, etc to ensure all systems are operating safely and efficiently and respond as required to address any problem areas or safety concerns. This includes maintaining records, conducting mandatory water testing and perform inspections. \xc2\xb7 Respond in an appropriate and efficient manner to inquiries, complaints and other communications from Council, Management, contractors, external bodies or members of the public; \xc2\xb7 Direct and oversee the winter operations and maintenance of all municipal streets, roads, municipal parking lots, utility facilities and hydrants; \xc2\xb7 Promote a positive image of the Town and the Public Works Department; \xc2\xb7 Perform other related duties and responsibilities as may be required. Required Knowledge and Skills: \xc2\xb7 Minimum completion of Grade 12. Additional educational certificates, courses or training in areas of construction, public utilities, or employee relations would be an asset; \xc2\xb7 Diploma in Civil or Municipal Engineering or a combination of education and experience considered an asset; \xc2\xb7 Supervisory experience in a public works / construction environment considered an asset: \xc2\xb7 A valid Class 5 License (mandatory); \xc2\xb7 A valid Class 9 License (mandatory); \xc2\xb7 A valid Class 8 License (mandatory); \xc2\xb7 Knowledge in the operation and maintenance of heavy equipment, trucks, and additional equipment utilized in a public works operation is required; \xc2\xb7 Working knowledge or related experience in Municipal Public Works, Water Systems, Sewer Systems, Sewer Lift Stations; \xc2\xb7 Effective inter-personal, communications and written skills with an ability to lead, supervise, manage, mentor, motivate, team-build and connect with people will be a definite asset; \xc2\xb7 The work environment is both indoor and outdoor with exposure to outside elements in all seasons with a physical demand from time to time; \xc2\xb7 On call/flexible work schedule is required for this position; \xc2\xb7 The ability to successfully deal with a mix of priorities and be able to problem solve under various work conditions and timelines; \xc2\xb7 The ability to act with tact and discretion around sensitive issues or situations and to maintain confidentiality; \xc2\xb7 Ability to obtain various safety and related courses as needed; \xc2\xb7 Ability to obtain certifications levels in both water distribution systems, as well as, wastewater collection and treatment systems; \xc2\xb7 Experience with Microsoft software (i.e. Excel, Word, Outlook, and Databases) is an asset; \xc2\xb7 Must have a clean driver abstract, excellent safety record and provide a criminal records check.
