SUPERINTENDENT OF EDUCATION

District School Board Ontario North East (DSB1) is excited to invite applications from inclusive and action-oriented leaders for the position of Superintendent of Education from both internal and external applicants.


As an important member of the Administrative Council and reporting to the Director of Education, you will demonstrate your commitment to the Board's vision, mission and three priorities of culture, equity and innovation and soon to be achieve, belong and create.


Responsibilities will include supervision and oversight of assigned schools in a region of DSB1 (elementary and secondary), central portfolios and working proactively with the senior team to execute the new Board Multi-Year Strategic Plan, 2025-2029 and Board Improvement Plan for Student Achievement and Well-Being. Central portfolios are not yet confirmed.


District School Board Ontario North East is focused on creating strong and vibrant northern communities through a learning culture which emphasizes excellence for each learner.


The district covers an area of approximately 25 000 square kilometers ranging from Temagami to Hearst to Timmins. Our Board serves six Indigenous communities, with students enrolled in our elementary and secondary schools.


District School Board Ontario North East has approximately 7 200 students in 25 elementary schools and 9 secondary schools. Of these students, approximately 25% have either an Individual Education Plan (IEP) or an Informal Individual Education Plan (NIEP).

Qualifications:




A member in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers, you possess permanent or interim certification. You hold Ontario Supervisory Officer qualifications or are currently enrolled in the Ontario Supervisory Officer Qualification Program.


In addition, you demonstrate:

outstanding educational leadership, including a commitment to collaborative decision-making with Trustees, peers, employees and community partners. strong evidence of student achievement and system success. skills in change management. the core leadership capacities and personal leadership resources in accordance with the Ontario Leadership Framework. experience leading current education initiatives and evidence-based approaches to teaching and learning. knowledge of and experience with research-based instructional practices, assessment and evaluation, and professional learning. knowledge and understanding of characteristics and needs of urban and rural school communities. a valid Ontario driver's license.
