The (the Board) invites applications for the position of Superintendent of Business and Treasurer. As a key member of the senior administration team, the Superintendent of Business and Treasurer will ensure that all business functions are conducted efficiently and in compliance with relevant legislation, while ensuring alignment with the strategic plan and vision. Reporting to the Director of Education, the Superintendent of Business and Treasurer will demonstrate highly effective leadership; responsible to strategically plan, direct and oversee the finance and business functions, facilities management, information and communication technology, and transportation services of the Board. The Superintendent of Business and Treasurer will lead, mentor and supervise the finance, facilities and information technology teams by fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to Gospel values and the teachings of Christ and the Catholic Church. This person has a demonstrated record of commitment to their personal journey of faith and animates joy, hope and love in their actions and words.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Financial and Business Operations
Responsible for the oversight and preparation of the Board's annual budget of over $85 million, including presenting to the Board for approval.
Responsible for the effective management of the Board's financial planning and reporting, accounting processes, and procurement.
Supervise and present the Board's annual financial statements and financial reports.
Ensure that quality assurance, risk assessment and management, Audit Committee support, and appropriate accountability measures are in place.
Collaboratively establish needs, set priorities, develop action plans, policies, and procedures to ensure the effective and efficient utilization of the Board's resources.
Ensure the business and operational functions of the Board are conducted in a prudent, transparent, and publicly accountable manner.
Oversee the procurement of goods and services while ensuring quality, timely delivery and compliance with legislative requirements.
As the Chief Privacy Officer designate, responsible for managing and safeguarding personal information within the Board in accordance with privacy legislation.
Facilities Management
Develop and implement facilities strategies to manage the Board's capital projects, building maintenance and operations, and improvements of elementary and secondary schools and the Catholic Education Centre.
Oversee the Board's maintenance, repairs, upgrades, product utilization, building materials and organizational supplies are purchased and purchases and inventory control are in keeping with the Board's business policies and procedures.
Ensure a safe and productive work environment by overseeing the Board's workplace safety and accessibility legal requirements.
Information and Communication Technology
Develop and implement information and communication technology strategies aligned with the Board's objectives.
Identify and mitigate information and communication technology risks, including cybersecurity threats and data breaches.
Ensure technology investments support student learning needs and long-term value.
Transportation Services
Responsible for ensuring student transportation needs, accessibility and safety protocols by representing the Board on the Huron-Perth Student Transportation Services (HPSTS).
Key Board contact for transportation matters including eligibility, school boundaries, bus cancellations and delays.
QUALIFICATIONS and SKILLS:
A Business Supervisory Officer's Certificate, as specified by the Ministry of Education, or ability to complete qualifications within one (1) year of application;
A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) professional designation is required;
A minimum of five (5) years experience in a senior level leadership position; preferable in a school board or public sector;
A Masters degree in business, administration, finance, accounting or related field is preferred;
Demonstrated leadership experience in financial analysis, budgeting forecasting, risk management and regulatory compliance;
Ability to effectively oversee the financial health of an organization and make informed business decisions;
Evidence of a commitment to ongoing faith formation;
Demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning and personal development;
Demonstrated ability to build strong partnerships with Superintendents, Principals/Vice Principals, system leaders, parishes, Ministry of Education, community partners and other education partners;
Exceptional communication skills orally and in writing;
Experience successfully implementing change and creating organizational direction;
Business and financial acumen;
Strength in critical thinking, problem solving and decision making; political acuity;
Experience nurturing positive relationships while dealing with highly complex and sensitive matters;
Ability to multi-task and manage conflicting priorities and deadlines with excellent time management and organizational skills;
Ability to maintain tact, discretion and strict confidentiality;
Proficient computer skills including Google Workspace and Microsoft Office;
A valid class G (or higher) Ontario driver's license and a reliable vehicle, this position requires use of own vehicle.
