Job Description




POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Deputy Chief \xe2\x80\x93 EMS Professional Standards is responsible for supervising the Vehicle/Equipment Technicians, and introducing and monitoring logistics processes related to equipment supply chain, from ordering to distribution, standardization and preventative maintenance processes. Key responsibilities include developing policies and procedures for the provision of logistics services; receiving and distributing physical assets to the Operations sections; coordinating the equipment maintenance and repair program; managing the inventory control system, and monitoring the annual logistics budget for compliance.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: * Participates as a member of the Division\xe2\x80\x99s management team in the planning and implementing of short- and long-range goals and objectives.

  • Schedules and directs the assignment of work for Vehicle/Equipment Technicians, ensuring routine checks, maintenance and cleaning of specialized medical equipment and EMS vehicles meet high quality standards, using the most efficient and effective methods available.
  • Supervises assigned staff including staff development, performance management/review, coaching/mentoring, health & safety, collective agreement administration, discipline, and termination decisions.
  • Assesses staffing needs, makes recommendations on complement amendments, organizational structure, participates in recruitment process and makes effective hiring decisions.
  • Develops and administers policies and procedures to ensure the efficient and effective provision of logistics services.
  • Develops and implements annual work plans and schedules, and takes appropriate action to ensure attainment of objectives.
  • Receives all equipment and supplies for the Division; ensures the timely distribution of equipment and supplies to facilitate emergency response.
  • Manages the inventory control system, ensuring inventory is at approved levels.
  • Ensures, through routine inspections, the proper functioning of specialized and other paramedic equipment; performs basic repairs, as required.
  • Assists with the management of service contracts and preventative maintenance programs for all equipment and supplies.
  • Coordinates the maintenance and issuing of defibrillators, communications, and other paramedic equipment.
  • Coordinates the routine maintenance of all EMS
  • Liaises with vendors and suppliers, service providers, and EMS and other Corporate staff.
  • Participates in the preparation and efficient management of the annual logistics budget, monitoring and taking corrective action to ensure budget compliance.
  • Participates on committees, meetings, task forces, work groups and special projects, as directed.
  • Ensures accurate records are maintained in accordance with Corporate policies.
  • Ensures the upkeep of all logistics areas.
  • Acts for the Superintendent \xe2\x80\x93 Fleet & Infrastructure Assets as required.
  • Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience:
  • Degree in business administration or other related discipline, together with three years\xe2\x80\x99 related experience, including inventory management and basic fleet maintenance; or
  • Diploma in business administration or other related discipline, together with five years\xe2\x80\x99 related experience, including inventory management and basic fleet maintenance
  • Three years\xe2\x80\x99 supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of supply chain management
  • Possess a thorough understanding of applicable regulations and relevant acts, legislation, policies and procedures related to logistics
Skills/Abilities:
  • Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Administration, Union executives, superiors, co-workers, employees, and the general public
  • Proven ability to function and contribute as an effective team member and to work independently
  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to give direction, motivate, and recognize others; proven ability to share skills and knowledge with others
  • Excellent project/time management, analytical/critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class \xe2\x80\x9cG\xe2\x80\x9d Ontario Drivers Licence, or equivalent
  • Must meet the definition of a competent driver as defined by the Corporation
  • Must be proficient in the use of computers and current related software
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • Must undergo a successful Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC)
  • Must remain a competent driver as defined by the Corporation
  • May be required to provide a successful driver\xe2\x80\x99s record (uncertified)
