Our Team

The Electrical and Instrumentation team is integral to employee\xe2\x80\x99s safety and Vale\xe2\x80\x99s long-term operating strategy. Members work across different departments to ensure fixed assets and instrumentation are functioning per design criteria. Team members are involved in equipment maintenance plan creation and execution, as well as controls and automation strategy development and implementation.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Process Superintendent II \xe2\x80\x93 Electrical & Instrumentation to join our Smelter team in Sudbury, Ontario. This is a permanent position.

In this role you will provide technical leadership and support to the Smelter through the technical services teams. You will also supply direction for business/growth opportunities, participate in selecting evaluating and leading technical services personnel, and collaborate closely with other business units and stakeholders.

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Audit and analyze systems within the area(s) of accountability to achieve the following outputs:
  • Zero harm to employees, the business, the environment, and the community,
  • Provide the required availability of equipment through well planned, efficient, and cost-effective maintenance.
  • Be accountable to manage the team of Electrical and Instrumentation maintenance crews, with a focus on improving business systems and processes and aligning best practices to improve safety, quality, production, and cost performance in the short and long term. Ensuring all activities follow VPS (Vale Production System).
  • Ensure alignment with the \xe2\x80\x9cVale In-source work\xe2\x80\x9d as part of the CBA with a goal of reduction contracting out.
  • Audit and analyze KPIs and trends in safety, maintenance, cost, quality, and schedule compliance.
  • Develop and implement actions to address common cause variances or continuous improvement opportunities, with a focus on optimal resource allocation while meeting the quantity and quality output requirements of the crews.
  • Commit and confirm compliance to weekly and monthly maintenance schedules escalate when schedules will not be achieved and manage plant activities during the execution of work.
  • Lead and ensure HomeSafe behaviours are exhibited by team members, coach team to ensure adherence and take corrective action when necessary to address noncompliance.
  • Provide performance feedback to team members, coach, and counsel employees on the standards of behaviour, and manage performance as required.
  • Contribute to the implementation of new systems/processes and provide guidance, auditing, mentoring and analysis support to the management team. Work with the HSE Committee to develop actions to improve safety, health and environmental performance and verify compliance with established Service Level Agreements (SLA) and required standards.
About You

Education:
  • The ideal candidate will possess a Degree as an Electrical Engineer or be a Certified Electrician.
  • CET or P. Eng. Certified applicants are preferred.
Experience:
  • Minimum 8 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in a related role.
Skills
  • Strong knowledge of the Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC), M421 Mining Regs, use of Electricity in Mines & Mining Plants, and CSA Standard Z462 Workplace Electrical Safety
  • Strong supervision, leadership, coaching, mentoring, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have strong organization and time management skills.
  • Takes initiative and can self-direct to accomplish goals with minimum supervision.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
  • Knowledge and understanding of VPS Technical, SAP, project management principles and strategies and strong project management skills.
