We are looking for a Superintendent Hygiene to lead the Occupational Health and Industrial Hygiene teams, working collaboratively to plan and implement key health and hygiene initiatives at BC Works. This temporary, 18-month role is ideal for someone who brings technical expertise, strategic insight, and a collaborative approach to supporting operational excellence.

Reporting to the HSE Business Partner, and working Monday to Friday, you will:
Provide technical and strategic support to on-site Industrial hygiene resources, in alignment with Rio Tinto's standards.
Support the industrial hygiene team in the implementation of monitoring plans -- from sampling strategies to production and presentation of annual reports.
Lead health improvement projects, including a five-year exposure reduction program.
Monitor and perform strategic planning for emerging risks and regulatory developments in occupational health and hygiene.
Oversee site compliance with medical monitoring requirements, through the implementation of pre-employment medical screening and periodic health surveillance programs.
Support internal and external reporting requirements, monitor and report on medical absence case management performance, and work with the medical service provider to ensure quality of service.
Foster the sharing of best practices, incident learnings, and innovations across sites.
Provide training, support, and advice to site leadership, health and safety team members, and other key stakeholders on occupational health and industrial hygiene best practices.
Collaborate with internal (e.g., Rio Tinto Aluminium Atlantic Hygiene, Health Area of Expertise) and external (e.g., WorkSafeBC) stakeholders to ensure regulatory and operational alignment.
What you'll bring
A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.
Completion of a degree in a health-related field, such as Industrial Hygiene, Nursing (Occupational Health), or Public Health.
At least ten years of experience in occupational health and/or industrial hygiene, including at least two years in a leadership capacity within smelting, mining, or heavy industry.
Demonstrated experience developing, executing, and supporting industrial hygiene programs (including monitoring, audits, investigations, risk assessments and inspections)
Advanced statistical analysis skills - Excel, Power BI, Cority
Knowledge and understanding of health & safety systems, local regulations, and risk management and assurance processes.
Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders at all levels.
Applied knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations (e.g., WorkSafe BC) and claims management practices.
High level of emotional intelligence, resilience, compassion, and care.
It will also be beneficial if you have:
Proficiency with Cority (or similar) electronic health records system.
Tertiary health qualification, such as Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), and or active certification as a Nursing Professional with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)

The base salary range for this role is $113,600 - $170,400 CAD in addition to allowances, bonus, equity, health and any other discretionary benefits offered at Rio Tinto. Our base salary ranges are based on role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by the skills, experience, and impact you bring to the role.
