The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Superintendent, Financial Planning & Analysis to join our Finance, Mines & Milling Operations Department in Sudbury. This is a permanent position.

In this role you will lead and develop a finance team that adds value to the operations through thorough analysis of costs, advice on cost control measures and providing the operations with support in implementing and monitoring costs on a continuous basis. You will also build effective, lasting and trusting relationships for yourself and your team with operations by being proactive in engagements with operations and providing advice and assisting the operations in reaching their goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be the Finance Business Partner to the ON Operations through regular interactions, providing advice and insights in terms of cost control and other areas of interest
  • Be the point of contact for the IBP team and assisting with providing cost and other information to ensure planning is done using accurate and up to date information
  • Ensure costs are analyzed in a high level of detail, within defined materiality parameters, and that the analyses are relevant, thorough and detailed to provide insight to Management into the cost structure, reasons for deviation from budget and forecast and identify areas of concern and improvement (costs include all costs included in the calculation of total costs, such as (including but not limited to) people, materials and services)
  • Assist operations with any issues regarding costs, such as incorrect cost allocations, through understanding the causes for the issues and resolving those issues
  • Prepare weekly forecast of operating costs in conjunction with the operations
  • Prepare monthly forecast of operating costs in conjunction with the operations and the Budget and Reporting Manager
  • Develop reports and analyses that assist with analysis of costs and provide information to the operations
  • Advise on ways to improve cost control measures and in implementing new measures to control costs
  • Drive financial evaluations/product cost reviews for North Atlantic to support investment decisions
  • Work with the operations on the annual and multi-year budgets and forecasts, ensure buy-in from sites into the budgeting and forecast process to ensure their accountability and responsibility for setting and meeting their budget and forecast, implementing tools and processes to improve the budget and forecast process
  • Lead projects for example activity-based costing/zero-based budgeting for North Atlantic Finance, driving standardization and efficiency to meet the goals of the business
  • Implementation and development of KPIs that are relevant, accurate and useful for decision making, monitoring and cost control
  • Gain an understanding of the capital budget for the operations, the projects that is included in the capital budget, the timing thereof and the actual results of the execution of the capital budget, including new projects, cancelled projects, changes in projects and change in timing of projects
  • Be involved in the opening and close-out meetings of the internal audit
  • Business travel required from time to time
  • Any other duties and tasks as assigned from time to time
About You

Education
  • University degree in Commerce, Finance or related discipline
  • CPA Designation is an asset
Experience
  • 8 years of financial management experience, preferably in the industrial sector
  • Extensive accounting experience
  • Expert software skills with MS Office products and CMMS systems (SAP)
Skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills
  • Superior problem solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
